My favorite part of the unofficial gallifreyan script I made back in 2011 is the brilliant creative community that's grown around it. Now that the script is apparently official, I really hope the BBC engages with that community.

Credit really needs to be given here. Yes, Sherman’s is free for everyone to use. But this is HUGE. The BBC and Doctor Who brand have now made a fans work canon, not only for promotional material, but merchandise and In-universe objects. This isn’t a fan making stickers.

Loren has always been open about how everyone should be able to use it, sell things using it, etc. But for the actual official BBC to use it without credit and slightly changing it… feels icky. Feels weird.

I can now confirm that Loren Sherman was never consulted or asked about the BBC using his fan-made circular gallifreyan system, or changing it slightly and then using it as the ‘official’ Gallifreyan.

As a gift for my PhD defense, my wife made a cross-stitch of Mercury’s northern topography. That yellow spot is an enigmatic 1000-km-wide topographic swell.
A decade later, I think I’ve finally cracked the mystery of its origin! The paper won’t come until 2025 but I’m excited.
