Too many people in this world think that everything follows res ipsa logic. No, two friends sitting and eating together is not itself evidence that men and women can’t be friends.

More “you missed the point” is complaining about the characters not having twists or not having their plans work out. It could not be more spelled out that Dune is a movie about fate and prescience. Paul knows what’s going to happen and cannot stop it.

You aren’t supposed to be thinking “how are paul and the Fremen going to win this,” you’re supposed to be thinking “how is Paul going to *stop* himself from winning this.” And realize alongside him in horror and despair that he can’t.

From a lesser director you could say the actors are carrying the bad dialogue with good performances. But I think it’s inane to assume that these weren’t intentional directions.

The shown scene of Irulan: her “stilted” dialogue is her being a princess trained by the Bene Gesserit to maintain utmost control. But Pugh gives a controlled hint of exasperation in the voice. That’s GOOD dialogue and performance.

…And b) “movies can have weird dialogue where there’s something else to convey the feelings” motherfucker HANS ZIMMER’s Oscar-winning score makes me feel more emotion than any spoken word in movie history.

Maybe you can criticize the dialogue itself; Villeneuve famously hates dialogue. But a) having dramatic, heightened, even alien-sounding dialogue is not a bad thing in a space opera…

I don’t know if I’ve ever disagreed with a film analysis more. I don’t think there’s a simpler example of “you missed the point” than complaining that the climactic battle is brief and overwhelmingly one-sided.
Completely agree with author Jason K. Pargin on the new Dune films. Too bad he has me blocked.

Shane Gillis is genuinely capable of being funny but he took the “woke comedy police” feelings too seriously and now just panders to conservatives and it’s killed his energy so much. When he does the blank stare here you can tell he’s just phoning it in, playing the hits.
oof...Shane Gillis's very awkward SNL opening monologue included him calling women whores for wearing shorts at the gym + an anecdote about using Joe Rogan's personal sauna, in which Theo Von said he "looked like a gas station egg" he ended the monologue by saying "you're either gay or you're Hitler, and isn't that where we're at as a country?" which kinda confused the audience, so he literally had to say, "hey, that was the monologue, ladies and gentlemen" here's the first joke: "I haven't been to the gym in so long. I didn't know women just dress like whores now. There's no other way to describe it. Have you seen the shorts? The wrinkles go, like, around the cheeks and all combine at the butthole. And don't look. You're not allowed to look."

He blew up because of jokes about disabled people, but those jokes were in good faith and you can tell because they were coming from personal experience and love for his family. It’s so much different to just lazily go “women are wh*res amirite?”

The problem with the “comedy is legal now” crowd has never been that you can’t joke about sensitive or dark subject matters. You just aren’t funny. Offensive jokes still have to be actually good jokes.

Genuinely hate that if you’re friends with a girl you can’t post pictures with them or spend time with them without people gossiping.

My rule is always “if you want this to be a secret from my partner, tell me that.” Sharing is the default. My dad is even more draconian. If you don’t want him to share something with my mom, don’t tell him.
women who tell their boyfriends everything their friends tell them and treat him like part of the group piss me off. he is YOUR boyfriend not my friend. idk him. i dont trust him. idk his intentions. your bf does not get automatic access to my life just because he sleeps with you

I always thought “the ick” referred to the change in disposition of the person having the ick, not the things that triggered that change in disposition,
I will never understand women who “get the ick”. They’ll say that it’s some evolutionary defense mechanism, but 99% of the time it’s completely illogical and just normal human behavior they’re being repulsed by. My theory is that the ick is part of feminist psychosis.

I got the ick from a girl I was seeing and it wasn’t anything she did wrong just something clicked and I stopped seeing her that way. “Getting the ick” usually is used specifically to describe a situation where you’re turned off of someone but not for any serious reason.

How much you want to bet Christian theology programs are exempt from the ban on “religious studies”
Trump is banning students majoring in degrees that don’t make enough money from taking out college loans. Degrees for social work, art, religious studies, teaching aides, and music will be hit the hardest. trib.al/NmmAzhf

I think the millionaires tax really exposes that a lot of people do not know what they’re talking about with tax issues. Not because “you don’t like this policy you must be stupid” but because genuinely you do not seem to understand the details and context of the bill.
WA voters really need to understand the absurd marriage penalty baked into Governor Ferguson’s Millionaires’ tax. Here’s a hypothetical: Joe makes $750k a year. He lives with Ann who makes $450k a year. Unmarried, they wouldn’t have to pay WA’s millionaires’ tax. But married, they’d have to pay nearly $20k! And consider their neighbor Tom who makes $999k a year. He lives with his girlfriend Sue who also makes $999k a year. This couple earns nearly twice as much as Joe and Ann but won’t have to pay a penny of the millionaires’ tax. Sure all of these incomes are high, but that’s irrelevant. This tax is inconsistent, unfair, and clearly UNconstitutional. Please vote YES on Initiative I-645!

These other taxes were only created because WA doesn’t have income tax. So, the bill adding an income tax relieved the other taxes. It gives Washington the choice. You can have an income tax, or you can have our inefficient alternatives.

The only thing you can’t do is live in your fantasy world where nobody pays taxes but everyone has essential services like schools and firefighters and public roads.
