India's Viyona Fintech plans to enter Zimbabwe with Tap and Pay, a platform that allows small businesses to accept contactless payments using Android smartphones instead of buying POS terminals. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe is currently in talks with India’s National Payments Corporation of India to introduce UPI-based national payment infrastructure. The talks are expected to be concluded by 31 October 2026. Viyona is targeting local banks, payment providers and merchant networks for integration before expanding across Africa. The rollout still requires regulatory approvals, payment network certification and local partnerships. Merchant fees, launch dates and compatibility with Zimbabwe's existing Zimswitch infrastructure remain unclear.
