Deeply saddened by the loss of Prof. Apeloig. During my time at the Technion, he was a professor, Dean & President, but above all, a revered colleague. We held his commanding presence in absolute awe, yet he was always incredibly warm & kind to us students. RIP.
Tired of reading in student drafts that plasmids must carry beneficial genes to survive their fitness costs, I finally wrote this! In @FrontMicrobiol, we show how plasmid burdens can actually be evolutionarily silent. Read: doi.org/10.3389/fmicb.2026.1… @AndrosiukLucy

Great job, @AndrosiukLucy
Just got back from #ISPB2024 in Hamamatsu, Japan. Incredible scientists sharing their groundbreaking work. What more could we ask for?
@PlasmidSociety
Now heading to #IC2AR2024 in Caparica, Portugal.
This paper started as a small project by a talented undergraduate student (Sivan Maane) under the supervision of a skilled graduate student (@AndrosiukLucy) and evolved into a paper that I am proud of.
CRISPR Spacers Acquired from Plasmids Primarily Target Backbone Genes, Making Them Valuable for Predicting Potential Hosts and Host Range biorxiv.org/cgi/content/shor… #biorxiv_micrbio
We found that the majority of anti-plasmid CRISPR spacers were acquired from plasmid backbone genes and mobility genes. We could not identify any spacers targeting resistance genes.

Postdoc position available!
Professor Ofra Benny heads the Benny Lab for Nanomedicine & Tumor Microenvironment at @HebrewU.
“Our multidisciplinary lab focuses on developing novel therapies and drug-delivery systems based on nanotechnology and functional biomaterials. By studying key processes in the tumor microenvironment and employing an integrative approach which combines bioengineering nanomedicine and theoretical models, we rationally design selective nano-therapies to provide a maximum drug efficacy with minimum off-target effects.
Using microfluidic and other technologies we investigate how physical and mechanical parameters of nanoparticles affect interactions with cells and tissues with varying stiffness.”
Ofra is among hundreds of Israeli researchers who have positions available for international postdocs!
If you are interested in working with Prof. Benny, you can find her info in our Supervisor Database.
If you have a different field of study, you can find a postdoc position that is the right fit for you by simply using the database’s search and filtering options!

@AndrosiukLucy, @tal_shay and me are thrilled to present our first marine plasmidome survey.
We used metagenomic data to de-novo reconstruct marine plasmids from the Red Sea and associate their presence with environmental factors.
Finally out!

Some plasmids were identified by us also in metagenomics datasets from other marine locations around the globe, but with different cassettes.
