1% of companies represent 90% of AI spending.
Of that 90%, 80% of this spend are from unprofitable VC backed companies.
So, roughly, $0.70-75 of every dollar of AI spending right now comes from AI companies spending VC investment dollars.
As a result, the revenue quality in AI is currently poor. This happened in previous cycles as well, like cloud when early users of AWS were mostly venture backed startups.
The thing, though, is that before AWS could scale and pull thru GCP and others as legitimate cash machines, there were a few clearing events to sort out these brittle revenues.
This is the extrapolation of Ken’s point. We will need to transition from speculative AI spending to consistent, reliable spend that shows up in public market earnings reports.
This hasn’t happened yet because most of the breathtaking revenue growth comes from LPs investing in VC funds who then send it to startups.
Congrats to a wonderful team. Always been supportive of our journey and I am grateful to have them in our corner
Today we announce @InspiredCap Fund IV. $450m more to back rational optimists shaping the intelligence age. The next decade will be unlike anything we've ever seen. Buckle up!
1. were in a bubble
2. there arent enough agent 1.0 names to go around (clearly)
3. vertical agents are dead before they arrived
Best launch video this week!
@RyanSerhant launched "Dot"
AI Chief of Staff for Real Estate Agents
Businesses with AI Assistants will 100x
Will your AI strategy suffice?
Serhant raised $45M to build this
How much will it really cost you?
DM if you need help.
DHH is probably one of the top software artisans of the past decade. Hearing him speak with this much conviction and transparency about one of the most polarizing topics in software right now, writing code by hand vs. with AI, is something pretty much every software engineer should hear a few times.
Especially those still on the wrong side of history.
people who write long, wordy, sloppy emails with AI and create more work for me are the bane of my existence
If distillation is IP theft isn’t all generated code considered IP of the model provider (or would it be the compute provider?) I don’t even understand
engineers who want to code but not use their products or services are really going to be in for a rude awakening. product is the real alpha, "code" adds so little incremental value now
Can I short the foundational model companies?
Big news: Kimi-K3 by @Kimi_Moonshot is now #1 in the Frontend Code Arena with 1679 pts, surpassing Claude Fable 5.
This is a 17-place jump from Kimi-k2.6 (#18 -> #1).
In Frontend, Kimi-K3 ranked #1 in 6 of 7 domains: Brand & Marketing, Reference-Based Design, Data & Analytics, Consumer Product, Simulations, and Content Creation Tools, landing #2 only in Gaming behind Fable 5.
The full model weights will be released by July 27.
Congrats to the @Kimi_Moonshot team on this major milestone!
i think we will look back on this moment when all software started to look the same as a massive mistake. notion, posthog, linear, cursor, etc etc. its a huge misstep imho
Introducing Ship OS: The agent-native way to ship software.
Run your entire product development cycle in Notion, from customer feedback to a merged PR.
Agents handle the triaging, routing, and summarizing. Your team handles the judgment calls.
Set up Ship OS → notion.com/ship-os
the problem isnt that balogun's red card was overturned, it objectively is the right decision. the problem is that trump made it political. sadly FIFA is a political organization, and the optics just devalue the USMNT's effort to get here (and hopefully to advance further)
