It warms my heart to see how many people from a minoritised background get onto #DClinPsy training!! I’m so so excited for this new generation of Clinical Psychologists 💪🏼

Although I often think about how much Whiteness is embedded into training and the world of Clinical Psychology. This adds another level of challenge to training for POC.

while I am very excited for more diversity in Clinical Psychology, I just hope courses support their trainees in a meaningful way

We still have capacity to pay for 2 DClinPsy applications, drop us a DM if you need support! @DClinMutualAid
While I thought Dr Alex explored really important topics last night, I couldn’t help but notice that they didn’t interview a single person of colour.

(The woman who happened to stumble across their interview taking place in the street does not count - that was LITERALLY luck)

I was left feeling slightly confused. Why were no POC interviewed when 1) they too experience MH difficulties 2) live in a society that has not resolved the health inequalities that significantly impact our group.

Now if you’re experiencing similar thoughts, it is okay and very normal to want to throw your application out the window at several points during this season

But try to remember WHY you want to be a Clinical Psychologist. Think about what drew you to the profession. Think about the people you want to work with. Yes, the application process is crappy and hard so take a break and remember why you’re applying.

Tell me your Filipino without telling me you’re Filipino… it’s October 24th and my mum is watching Christmas films

Massively relate to this. I’m never British enough or Filipina enough
"So, here you are too foreign for home too foreign for here. Never enough for both." Ijeoma Umebinyuo Reminded of this in today's supervision workshop.

Someone offered me £500 (yes 500 GBP) to read their Assistant Psychologist application.

If you are charging for support, I urge you to think about the barriers you are perpetuating. Yes, your time and skills are worth something but you cannot preach about wanting diversity in the profession and then charge people ££ to read an application.

Exactly! And it’s strange as most people come into this profession to help others! Why is this limited to our working with clients?

Agree with all your points. It says so much about what is still wrong with the profession. What ever happened to a bit of a sense of putting something back in to help others?
