Jim Balsillie (formerly of RIM/Blackberry) on Mark Carney:
"Whether it’s his perspectives on incentives, investment, climate strategies or productivity, Mr. Carney’s economic proposals to date represent the very establishment that has for the past 30 years peddled ossified and distorted ideas about the economy that manifested a systemic erosion of Canada’s prosperity. A more confident and efficient version of Mr. Trudeau will not make Canada’s economy grow. Instead, Mr. Carney’s economic policy proposals will simply perpetuate the status quo, making Canada more vulnerable, less prosperous and less sovereign."
From the Globe and Mail article "Mark Carney will not make Canada more prosperous"

Pathetic ...bring back the guillotine!¡!!!

It was built in 1876. It survived World Wars. It did not survive modern France.

NEW: David Eby confirms his family has personally accessed $10 a day child care. The NDP under John Horgan promised universal $10 a day - but only 10% of spots today are $10. Advocate Sharon Gregson says, under Eby, BC has most expensive child care in Canada. #bcpoli

While Europe is distracted by disorders in France, revolving-door governments in Great Britain and the disintegration of the German coalition, a major shift is underway in Latin America. Flavio Bolsonaro’s first-round victory over the three-term president and seven-time candidate Lula da Silva is another decisive turn to the responsible right.
A series of conservative victories in Argentina, Paraguay, Honduras, El Salvador, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Bolivia has already constituted a tidal wave of support for a Pan-American and pro-American hemispheric shift. The addition of Brazil would complete an almost full sweep of the entire hemisphere, except to a limited extent Mexico.
The juntas have gone, and the old Peronist formula of blaming everything on the United States has given way to popular electoral forces emulating the United States. Not since Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Good Neighbor policy of ninety years ago has America exercised such positive leadership in its hemisphere, as the final detritus of the ghastly Castro experiment in Cuba flounders dismally to its end.
COMMENT: Brazil’s run-off puts the last piece of the hemisphere in play, writes @ConradMBlack

Indeed
The Fraser Institute is offering a sobering look at the reality of industry in Canada.
While the political class would have you believe that we’re turning the ship around, the facts on the ground don’t hold up to scrutiny.
Put bluntly, Ottawa is refusing to let go of its grip on industry.
A most welcome reality check if you ask me.

So far, the BC election seems pretty simple:
Lorne Doerkson: Don’t know him well. Seems like a good guy.
David Eby: Know him well. Not a good guy.

There is nothing more annoying than a Canadian mass hysteria event.
The same people who supported this garbage 5 years ago are - right now - peering at labels on their apples to make sure they aren't buying wrongapples.
This country is full of morons.
They behave exactly how media tells them to behave. They become captured by emotion. They lose whatever perspective they had as they trip over each other to be seen as the most virtuous. They have no ability to think critically about anything -ever.
Not 20%. It's well beyond 70%.
Perhaps even more.
You should never feel bad about telling these people how fickle, malleable and stupid they are.
Because they are incredibly, incredibly stupid.

Shameful
Genuinely disappointed (although not totally shocked) that a Liberal MP has got away with yet another gross ethics violation and, quite frankly, borderline embezzlement of public funds.
NDP-turned-Liberal MP Lori Idlout (Nunavut) was found guilty of violating Section 8 of the Conflict of Interest Code for Members of the House of Commons on five separate occasions for using her taxpayer-funded constituency budget to purchase more than $2,000 in artwork and trinkets from her own business in Iqaluit.
This is a direct violation of the provision that Members of Parliament cannot use taxpayer funds to further their own private interest – a rule that is made abundantly clear to all new MPs (she was elected in 2021).
Worse, there is documented evidence that she explicitly knew about this provision, with her compliance advisor recording, in writing, all the way back in 2022, “I also advised her (Idlout) she could not purchase gifts from the indigenous art gallery she owns with her Member’s Office Budget. She was very much aware of this.”
On top of all this, she also used her travel budget to stay at accommodations owned by her spouse – another obvious contravention of the code.
Despite these repeated infractions, and her documented awareness of the rules that she contravened, the Commissioner recommended that no sanction be imposed on Ms. Idlout.
Not even a slap on the wrist.
This is the same MP who also owned an “Indigenous management consulting firm” on the side (while being a Member of Parliament) that received contracts and money directly from the federal government (before she crossed the floor).
I don’t understand what the purpose is of having a Conflict of Interest Code if every time a Liberal MP breaks the law, nothing happens.
When Canadians vote for their elected officials, they are placing an enormous amount of trust in us to treat their hard-earned tax dollars judiciously and ethically.
With that trust comes an enormous amount of responsibility.
When someone violates that trust and breaks the law, there need to be consequences.
