A summary of the Third Secret of Fatima according to Cardinal Mario Luigi Ciappi, Fr. Malachi Martin, Antonio Socci and the 1963 Neues Europa text: Great apostasy beginning “at the top”: The hierarchy (pope, cardinals, bishops) would lead a widespread loss of the Catholic faith, with dogma obscured or abandoned. Cardinal Ciappi is frequently quoted as saying the Secret foretold that “the great apostasy in the Church begins at the top." A “wicked council” and schism: One circulated text (linked to claims involving Fr. Arnette or similar private accounts) describes a planned council that would “change the countenance of the Church,” causing many to lose the faith, widespread confusion, sheep searching in vain for shepherds, and a schism tearing the Church. It speaks of the “abomination of abominations,” the end times, and the Church bleeding “from all her wounds.” Diabolical influence and spiritual chastisement: Satan would reign in the highest places of the Church, promoting errors against God, doctrine, and dogmas. There would be a “diabolical disorientation,” a “false church,” mass unbelief, and consecrated souls falling away. Fr. Malachi Martin (who claimed to have read the Secret) described a spiritual chastisement involving the disappearance of religious belief in many countries, with cardinals, bishops, and priests “falling like leaves into Hell,” and faith vanishing from continents if not for Our Lady’s intervention. Physical chastisements and global upheaval: Linked to the second part of the Secret (Russia’s errors), these would include wars, revolutions, natural disasters (fire and smoke from heaven, oceans turning to vapor, flooding), and a great chastisement on humanity in the second half of the 20th century (or beyond). The Neues Europa text (1963), which some sources (including claims involving Cardinal Ottaviani or Fr. Luigi Villa) present as containing elements of the Secret, details such catastrophes and Satan directing events from the highest. Ultimate triumph: Despite the crisis, the Immaculate Heart of Mary would triumph for those who persevere and take refuge in it. It is abundantly clear that since the death of Pope Pius XII the Catholic Church is enduring the eschatological catastrophe prophesised by Our Lady of Fatima
