I am sorry to hear the poet John Lucas has passed away.
John was a perfect gentleman. He was an expert on Baudelaire, Auden. I was lucky to see John read & talk to him a little in my formative years as a young poet in Nottingham.
He will be missed. Rest in peace John 🖤

Sir Nicholas Winton was a British humanist who organised the Kindertransport humanitarian rescue of hundreds of children from Nazi-occupied Europe. His life demonstrated his belief: that people did not need religion to live good, ethical lives. He exemplified 'Think for yourself, act for everyone.'

ALT Black-and-white photograph of Sir Nicholas Winton holding a small child. Overlaid text reads: “I believe in ethics, and if everybody believed in ethics we’d have no problems at all. That’s the only way out; forget the religious side. Sir Nicholas Winton, British humanitarian and humanist.” The Humanists UK logo appears in the corner.

As we’ve all seen in recent days, a growing, well-funded US-style Christian nationalism is taking root in the UK – threatening the hard-won freedoms we all share and must protect. humanists.uk/2025/09/17/risi…
