The Goblet of Fire, Part 1, is now complete! Links below! As I have mentioned before, this work represents a COMPLETE retelling of Goblet of Fire - no summaries, no edits of the original prose, only referencing when needed. This is because Draconia Malfoy is now affecting the story so thoroughly that editing would be more effort than it is worth, and there is practically not a single event that goes unchanged thanks to her presence. Book four will have a lot more romantic content than the previous edits - as expected, with the Yule Ball coming up. It also introduces a few of my own changes to canon events to tell the story I want to, though this early not many are visible. Part 1 weighs in at about 50k words, and is one of the longer parts, covering events up until right before the arrival of Beauxbatons and Durmstrang. Future parts, save for the final, should be shorter and therefore released more quickly. Part 2 will cover the first task, Part 3 the Yule Ball, Part 4 the second task, and Part 5 the final task. So I know that people mostly read my rewrites for the romantic content, but I also just want to make the overall story stronger while I'm going through it, which is part of why I'm rewriting the entire Goblet of Fire book, and not just the Malfoy-specific scenes. I already started with this in book three when it came to the Time Turners. Rather than have a 13 year old girl get exclusive access to one for the purpose of *checks notes* taking more classes, I instead made it a powerful emergency tool that Harry and Hermione had to steal at the end. I'm taking a similar approach with book four and beyond. In some cases, it's just a small explanatory line here or there that addresses an obvious question that is never answered in the text, like why isn't Veritaserum always used in interrogations? Or why couldn't Harry just not compete in the Triwizard Tournament? Why the hell didn't Barty just grab Potter day 1 and made him compete in the tournament instead? Overall, I don't want to just make a cute romance story, but to make a more enjoyable version of Harry Potter. Part of that is, of course, introducing a strong romantic subplot that slowly moves into main plot as the story goes on, to really bring that theme of love triumphing to the forefront. But also to just make the world feel a bit more consistent and sensible without removing the whimsy. I've also begun planning on some substantial additions to the world and plot. One of them that I've already mentioned is the Re-Sorting for book five. But I've started planting a few little Easter eggs here and there that won't be fully revealed until the very last book. I'm planning on giving Barty a much more interesting story in my rewrite because I think its such a wasted opportunity to have this guy larp as a teacher for a WHOLE YEAR, actually be really good at it, teach Harry things he DEFINITELY doesn't need to and that Voldemort would probably be VERY unhappy if he knew about (like the Imperius curse resistance) only to have him get off-screened at the end. I think there's a much more interesting dark mentor story here.
