I just read your excellent article about Margaret Qualley in the March issue of Vanity Fair. :)
I have just one small critique: in your look back at Qualley's career, I wish you'd mentioned her heartbreakingly beautiful role in the 2019 video game Death Stranding.
My four picks to play the Doctor are: Andrea Riseborough (a character actor of immense grace, pathos and conviction; she's Peter Capaldi levels of qualified), David Jonsson (Alien: Romulus and The Long Walk convinced me he would be a GREAT Doctor), Sarah Snook and Jessie Buckley.
Sarah Snook and Jessie Buckley are both great character actors, and either would be the first non-British Doctor (Australian and Irish, respectively). While I agree with the fan consensus that the Doctor shouldn't be played by an American actor, British-adjacent is fine.
How Mac gamers feel after #WWDC25:
(The bulk of this satirical video is from @CollegeHumor's hilarious sketch about the CEO of Skype.)
Previously, my M1 Max Mac Studio ran Death Stranding at Ultra settings with FPS in a very playable 30s-50s, but today I raised the Maximum FPS to 120, with no other graphics adjustments, and now my FPS is in the much better 50s-70s. π€·ββοΈπ

You recently updated Half-Life 2 to fix a crashing issue on Linux, but you also need to fix the crashing issue for the Mac version.
The 20th anniversary update crashes on launch on any Mac (running 10.14 Mojave or earlier) that should be able to run it.
Last week, the Star Mail ran my article on the Golden Globes, discussing the winners, who I wish won instead (with strong focus on @coraliefargeat's The Substance and Kinds Of Kindness) and Nikki Glaser's great job hosting the event. π
I feel kinda awful now after questioning the director on this, but Shelter 54 by Lost Utopia Films is a riveting, extremely well-produced Godzilla short fan film with narration so bad, I thought it was an AI voiceover.
My list of 2024's best films is in today's Star Mail!
Congratulations to Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, Guy Maddin, Dev Patel, James Watkins, Arkasha Stevenson, Alex Garland, the Cairnes brothers, Osgood Perkins, @coraliefargeat and Denis Villeneuve for making my ten favorite films of 2024.
I'm thrilled to see The Substance receive five big Golden Globe nominations (including Best Director and Best Screenplay for @coraliefargeat), but I also view this as vicarious vindication for Saltburn.
During the Intel transition, Apple renamed most of its Macs β the Power Mac became the Mac Pro; the PowerBook became the MacBook Pro; the iBook became the MacBook Air β but the iMac is still the iMac.
If Apple were to rename the iMac, what do you think they might call it?
To any vintage Mac collectors: which drive should I install in my new clamshell iBook?
The short SATA SSD is 60 GB. The Compact Flash card is 128 GB.
Should I go for a smaller genuine SSD, or a large, reliable memory card that isn't really designed to be a hard-drive?
A couple of months ago, my new G4 Cube got stuck in its case, but today I finally got it out with the help of a ruler.
The Cube has a metal slab with an orange dot that prevents internal cables from catching on the case, but this slab can ITSELF get lodged in the case. :(
In Terminator: Salvation, Marcus (designated the T-H) is a metal endoskeleton with a living flesh exterior (as a precursor to the T-800) but with a human heart and brain.
It makes sense that Skynet, in efforts to make humanlike AI, would start with a modified human brain.
I'd read concerning reports that Apple had eliminated side-loading for unsigned apps in MacOS 15.1, but I tested this using a bunch of games from Itch, which tend to be unsigned, and nearly all of them still opened through a couple of clicks in Privacy and Security.
Is the modern United States trying to emulate the future America of The Handmaid's Tale or Jennifer Government?
...It's both, isn't it? :(
