Being the first woman of Middle Eastern descent to be nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in the supporting actress category is still something Sepideh Moafi is wrapping her head around. “We have historically been cast at the periphery of stories and been a two-dimensional device for main protagonists,” she says. “To be able to embody this woman [Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi] with such fierce intellect, courage, empathy, vision and tenacity is incredible in and of itself. And then, to have this historic nomination playing a woman like that – I’m over the moon.” See more: deadline.com/2026/08/the-pit…

#ThePitt star Sepideh Moafi reacts to becoming the first Middle Eastern woman nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series at the #Emmys: "Oh my god, I’m going to start crying. I can’t express what — it’s just, it’s really not about me in this moment. It’s the way it can empower so many other people to see a path paved. And not that it’s about awards either, but about empowering you to believe in yourself, whether it’s going into medicine, or it’s believing that you are more than the discrimination that you’ve dealt with. This character inspires me and empowers me, and I think seeing an Iranian or Middle Eastern woman be recognized for their work in a show like this, in a moment like this, inspires hope. Hopefully it encourages people to live fearlessly and do what they want to do. It’s incredibly powerful to be able to hold this torch for everyone else that will follow." variety.com/lists/emmy-nomin…
