I draw your attention to SI No. 68 of 2025 which comes in effect on 1st January 2026. This will force mines to buy from local manufacturers. Mines will have to reserve at least 20% of their annual procurement budget for Zambian owned companies.
Last year cabinet approved the establishment of Zambia Minerals Investment Corporation (ZMIC) which will allow GRZ to trade minerals directly. Unlike the old model (ZCCM-IH) where GRZ got a dividend when mines declared a profit, ZMIC will take a percentage of the physical copper produced by all the mines and sell it on the open market.
ZMIC is tasked with entering into joint ventures specifically focused on value addition. ZMIC will also have the right to acquire substantial stakes (up to 30%) in new mining projects.
Zambia, DRC and USA also signed an MOU to create a regional value chain for EV batteries in 2022. This was followed by the Transboundary Battery and Electric Vehicle Special Economic Zone agreement in 2023.
A pre-feasibility study carried in 2023 confirmed that the project is technically and financially viable. It found that manufacturing battery precursors in Zambia and DRC would be significantly cheaper than in the US or China. This project is supported by Afreximbank, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), and the US government
Things are happening, but we all seem to be preoccupied with politics to notice all of this. Any one interested in learning more about the Transboundary Battery and Electric Vehicle Special Economic Zone can follow the links below

As a Gen Xer, can some one please explain what has changed. In my time, as ohns we did this all the time whenever we saw chics we liked. Let me tell you one of the stories. Me and my late friend (MHSRIP) were in Kitwe to buy some emeralds and we booked 2 rooms at Hotel Edinburgh on the 4th or 5th floor..I can't remember. This was in 1992 or 93.
After our transactions, me and my friend were hanging in my room having a few beers while looking across the road to the hotel pool. We saw these 2 "hot" chics swimming, so I rang room service and told them to go to the pool area and tell the chics they could have whatever they wanted and charge it to us.
The waiter went down to the pool and told them what I said. When they asked who was paying, the waiter pointed towards us and we waved at them, After they finished swimming, they came up to the room to introduce themselve. It turned out, they were cousins from Lusaka visiting relatives in Kitwe.
We asked them if they wanted to go out with us to Cinderella Nightclub (Cindy's) later in that evening. They agreed and said they wanted to go and dress up. We gave them cab fare and they did come back. For us, we took a shot and if they did not come back, it was all good.
I was single then, and that's how Playaz played. What's different now? What do today's Playaz do?
1/ Yesterday, I noticed this vintage coffee percolator on a kerb of a house in the neighbourhood with a "Free" sign on it. So, I stopped and picked it up. From what I've found out, these were made in the USA from the 30s to the 60s. After a thorough cleaning last night, I decided to make a long black using my favourite freshly ground coffee beans...

When the lamb shanks are done, remove them from the pot and pass the gravy through a sieve, then boil on high heat to reduce until you have nice thick gravy (F1). If only you could smell the kitchen. Fall off the bone tenderness...served on a bed of polenta

#TBThursday..November 1991, President Chiluba ask Zambians to vote for MMD in the local government elections...and Francis Ndovi presenting the news. For the young zedians, Morris Kabwe was a cashed up businessman on the copperbelt. Apologies for the poor quality, VHS tapes are not the best medium for recording media.
I plan on taking time to digitise my VHS tapes. I have heaps of ZNBC and MNet content from the 90s
I served the meatballs with Turkish pilaf and store bought Toum sauce..
