Keeping everyone (including Africans) completely ignorant about Africa and the central role it plays in the economic and natural world is a core feature of Europeanised education, not a bug. You're not supposed to know that the DRC is the most resource-rich country in the world, with an estimated $24 trillion sitting under its soil. You're not supposed to know that the rise of "western civilisation" from the 15th century on was entirely made possible by European contact with Africa, and that the resources and labour extracted from coastal West Africa from 1492 onwards are the entire reason why both American continents exist in their current form. You're not supposed to know that both WW1 and WW2 were essentially wars fought over the right to African colonial domination and expansion, and that even the uranium that was used in "Little Boy" and "Fat Man" dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki came from Shinkolobwe uranium mine in eastern DRC. You're not supposed to know that the reason the country of France exists in its current form is because tens of thousands of conscripted West African soldiers fought and won against the Nazis in Europe, and the French thereafter shipped them back to West Africa and massacred them at Camp Thiaroye in Senegal to avoid paying them their due wages. You're not supposed to know that there was nothing cold about the so-called Cold War, because the vast majority of the hot theaters it was physically fought in were on the continent of Africa. (Zimbabwe, DRC, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Angola, Eritrea, Zambia etc). You're not supposed to know that the ongoing Ukraine war and the war in the Sahel are in fact the same conflict being fought by the same 2 sides, and that the reason France is desperately pushing funding and arms to Ukraine even as it falls into internal crisis is that Ukraine is acting as its proxy army in West Africa, as it tries to regain its lost colonial territories there, especially Niger where the cheap yellowcake uranium for its famously cheap nuclear energy used to come from before the 2023 revolution. You're definitely not supposed to know that the entire global economy and system of trade as you know it is built on ruthless extraction from Africa and ensuring that Africa does not control anything it exports. You're not supposed to know that "Italian leather" doesn't come from Italy - it comes from Kano, Nigeria. You're not supposed to know that "Swiss chocolate" does not exist because cocoa does not grow anywhere in Switzerland or Europe - it comes from Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire and Nigeria. You're not supposed to know that Israel and the UAE control the global diamond and gold markets even though Israel has no diamond mine and the UAE has zero gold mines, because both resources are literally being stolen from the DRC and Sudan on an industrial basis. You're basically not supposed to understand that the entire geopolitical world as you know it, rests entirely on extraction from Africa, poverty of Africans, and your own ignorance about where everything you use comes from. Completely deliberate 500+ year-old feature, not accidental bug.
How did school teach us about the Amazon so much & never once mention the Congo Basin? It's the world's largest tropical carbon sink. The planet is literally breathing through it & nobody thought we should know 😳

When I was growing up, basically everyone I knew had a summer job by 15 or 16. Lifeguarding, bagging groceries, mowing lawns, scooping ice cream. It's just what you did. Now I meet teenagers and early 20-somethings who've never had a single paycheck and aren't in any rush to get one. Pew's actual data backs this up too. Over half of teens had summer jobs back in 2000. Now it's barely a third. Maybe I sound like my own parents saying this, but what changed?

Never thought i'd see the day when a US president suggests he would allow a foreign nation to destroy two major American cities and people cheered.

If college being free for everyone would make a college education worthless you are blatantly admitting a college education exists to be a class gateway

Israel is at risk of civil war or state collapse, a classified CIA assessment warns, as years of genocide in Gaza and war in Lebanon and Iran deepen political, economic, and social fractures within the country. "CIA experts pointed to a volatile mix of pressures converging ahead of Israel’s elections on October 27: economic crisis and soaring military spending; heavily armed veterans returning from prolonged combat, many carrying serious psychological trauma; growing fury over ultra-Orthodox men who are exempt from military service; escalating settler violence in the occupied West Bank; and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fighting to hold onto power and igniting a constitutional crisis. Shohei could’ve gone up to the plate without a bat and gotten on base 3 times in tonight’s game. Braves aren’t even bothering to throw him anything in the zone.

WE ARE GETTING ABSOLUTELY ROBBED IN BROAD DAYLIGHT. My coworker tried to move into a basic 1-bedroom apartment last week listed at $1,650 a month. When the lease arrived, the actual monthly total was $2,120. They tacked on: β€’ $150 "Mandatory Media Package" (basic cable nobody uses) β€’ $75 "Trash Valet Service" (walking 30 feet to a dumpster) β€’ $45 "Utility Administration Fee" (a fee to process his water bill) β€’ $20 "Pest Control Charge" β€’ $180 "Assigned Parking Fee" When he asked the leasing agent to remove the optional add-ons, she flat-out said: "None of these are optional. They're mandatory lease attachments." He checked the property management group online a mega-corp backed by private equity that owns over 40,000 units across the country. They artificially suppress the base rent on Zillow to rank high in search filters, then force tenants into $500/month of unbundled junk fees on the back end. You aren't just paying rent anymore. You're paying a corporate subscription fee just to occupy four walls while Wall Street nickel-and-dimes your paycheck to inflate their dividend yields.
