TODAY. 14:00. THE COST OF RESISTANCE. Albertina Sisulu was banned for eighteen years, the longest order ever imposed on anyone in South African history. Dorothy Nyembe served fifteen years in prison. No books. No radio. Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was detained for four hundred and ninety-one days, and never convicted of anything arising from it. Ruth First and Victoria Mxenge were murdered. Nobody in South Africa is banned or banished today. Women who stand up are still paying. The currencies have changed. The price has not. This afternoon we ask three things. What did resistance cost the women of 1956, including the costs nobody photographed? What does it cost women who stand up now? How might that cost be carried between us, rather than alone? If you have carried a cost for standing up, we want to hear from you. You do not need a title, an organisation, or a prepared speech. Sunday 16 August 14:00 to 15:30 SAST Live on Zoom us06web.zoom.us/j/5845829073… Meeting ID 584 582 9073 Passcode d5D1Ty No registration. Everyone welcome. Nobody is obliged to speak. Bring a question, a frustration, or a proposal. #WomenWhoBuiltDemocracy #WomensMonth2026 #ThePeoplesPower #RememberTheirNames

Far too little focus on renewables, with SA's Just Energy Transition moving too slowly, and even climate finance at risk of widening the inequality divide.
Municipalities increased their electricity prices by 12.72% in July, raising the cost of 350kWh of prepaid electricity from R907 in June to R1,043 – an increase of R136. More charts: theoutlier.co.za/

I've been on a two-week break with my family in Europe, with signs of climate impact and overtourism evident - that's a separate post. Mostly, we focused on epic memories and experiences over things - also another post. In the interim, excited about this opportunity!

Often see gaps like this. Sourcing the data matters. Irony of this screen time chart? It denotes old population of Japan, and largely overlooks continent with world’s youngest population.
