Yeniden başlıyoruz! Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi @METU_ODTU Biyolojik Bilimler Bölümüne öğretim üyesi olarak katıldım. Aslında en baştan beri olmam gereken yere geç de olsa gelmiş olmaktan mutluyum. Burada, her şeye en baştan büyük bir heyecanla başlıyorum, yeni bir Sentetik Biyoloji laboratuvarı kuracağız. Laboratuvarımız; genç araştırmacıları odağına alan, AI destekli sentetik biyoloji sistemleri, yaşayan ilaçlar, biyoteknolojik ilaç ve aşılar ile sürdürülebilirlik çözümleri geliştirmeye açık bir araştırma ortamı olacak. Kapımız @SekerLab her zaman yeni heyecanlı ve meraklı yüksek lisans ve Doktora öğrencilerine ve araştırmacılara açık olacak. Her zaman olduğu gibi laboratuvarımız @SekerLab başta ve öncelikle ODTÜ Lisans öğrencilerine, sonra da diğer okullardan meraklı lisans öğrencilerine de yeni araştırmacılar yetiştirmek üzere açık olacak.

Benim için ve araştırma grubumuz @sekerlab için bir gurur anı, doktora öğrencilerimizden Recep Erdem Ahan @Ahanre sentetik biyoloji alanında evrensel düzeyde yaptığı çalışmalarla doktorasını tamamladı. Evrenselden kastım, makaleler yayınlamış olması değil (sayısını, niteliğini merak eden kendisinin Scholar profiline bakabilir) - canlıların sahip olmadığı sistemler tasarlamış ve bunları çalıştırmış olması. Recep, doktoraya başka ülkelerden kabul almış olmasına rağmen bizimle doktoraya devam etti. Burada da, neler yapabildiğimiz göstermesi bakımıdan -evet zorluklar var- önemli bir örnek olduğunu düşünüyorum kendisinin. Zira önemli olan, meraklı yaratıcı ve çalışkan insanlara alan açmak. Geliştirdiği ve yer aldığı çalışmalar, yayın-patent ve ürünleşme aşamasında sonuçlar verdi-veriyor. Kendisine, laboratuvarımıza verdiği katkılardan dolayı teşekkür ediyorum. Böyle iyi bir bilim insanının kariyerine ufakta olsa katkı vermiş olmaktan onur duyuyorum.
