Hey @nytopinion - we love the title of your new series At the Brink, and we agree! In fact, we created a whole podcast with former Secretary of Defense William Perry @SecDef19 dedicated to the topic of nuclear dangers: atthebrink.org
The risk of nuclear war is often called unimaginable. In fact, it’s not imagined enough. Read the first essay in a new Opinion series, At the Brink, about the threat of nuclear weapons in an unstable world. nyti.ms/3Tjo8Qa

Wise words from @SecDef19: "There is no organic reason why #Russia should be our enemy. #Putin is the enemy, not Russia. We must work to rebuild connections with Russia...in the hopes that we can once again return to the path of friendship." outrider.org/nuclear-weapons…

New START successfully lowered and limited deployed launchers for 10+ years; it *works*. Neither Russia nor the United States have anything to gain from jeopardizing the New START treaty.
Russia has announced it's suspending inspections under New START - the last big treaty limiting US and Russian nuclear arsenals - citing visa and flight restrictions as making conducting reciprocal investigations difficult mid.ru/ru/foreign_policy/new…

How is the annexation of Mariupol or Kherson a rational response to the alleged threat of NATO expansion? I honestly can't even understand the logic of the argument? & Putin is not even bothering to make the argument himself! He's talking now about Peter the Great, not NATO.

Can everyone please stop using the phrase, “World War Three.” The probabilities of either Biden or Putin triggering world war are very low.

The big takeaway? Just don’t panic—and don’t forget what you’re feeling right now. Learn about nuclear weapons. Learn about the activism around them, around getting rid of them. trib.al/KHuT2M7

A sad news from Moscow - General Evgeny Maslin passed away on February 28. He was the head of the 12th Main Directorate, which handles nuclear weapons, in 1992-1997. He oversaw safe withdrawal of nuclear weapons from KZ, BY, and UA. One of the old school professionals I respected
