If your visiting hedgehogs have disappeared into hibernation - well done! 🥰 Hedgehogs will only attempt to enter the hibernation process if they are healthy and have enough brown fat to see them though winter. Thanks to you and your kind provisions of safe food and clean water they have reached that happy state. Hedgehogs occasionally rise from hibernation for a top up, so please keep providing food and clean water all through the winter. Covering the biscuits with a saucer will keep dry cat food fresh for around 3 days, before it starts losing its crunch, aroma, and nutritional quality. Here's dear sweet Anya, who rose from her hibernation last night for a top-up snack, before going back to bed. She has been in hibernation since 1st September. The babies she gave birth to here in June dispersed when they were old enough, but sweet Anya decided the maternity wing of the winter cabin makes a nice home, thanks very much, and has stayed.😁 Anya's history: xitter.cf/HedgehogCabin/status/2…
Darling Anya who arrived so terribly sick has responded really well to her treatments and is now in tip-top health. She is due to go home tomorrow. Well, she was.... As you can see from my bodycam footage, Anya gave birth this morning.❤️ I'd lifted her bed box out, cleaned her pen, and was about to open the box to weigh and medicate her when I noticed the wet lid lining. From experience I've seen birthing fluids evaporate with mum's body warmth then condensate on the lid, wetting the lining, so I went very carefully. What we catch a quick glimpse of here is a baby she's literally just given birth to. Hoglets are born with soft white spines, which are hidden beneath a fluid-filled layer of skin to protect the mother during birth. This is what you see here. Within 1 to 2 hours this protective skin shrinks and retracts, allowing the baby's white spines to break through and become visible. From now on sweet Anya will be left hands off, undisturbed in the seclusion of her pen, allowing her to bond with her new babies in peaceful solitude. 🧵 Thread: Käthe Kollwitz (1867-1945) is perhaps my favourite artist. Throughout her life she depicted a series of astonishing self-portraits. She was a master of ink, charcoal, stone & bronze. She is one of the greatest artists in the Western Canon. [1]

Pope Leo XIV celebrated Mass at noon on Friday in the room set up on the 10th floor of Gemelli Hospital, according to the Holy See Press Office. Several members of Gemelli's medical and nursing staff attended the Mass, along with members of the Vatican City State Gendarmerie Corps. "In his homily, the Pope thanked all the staff—doctors, nurses, and orderlies—for the work they do every day caring for patients in their frailty, and especially for what they have done and continue to do for him," read the statement.

If you feed your visiting hedgehogs, they will leave a healthy scent trail that sick hogs will follow. So sooner or later you will have a casualty arrive who needs taking to a rescue. It can be a worrying time, but being prepared will make things a lot easier and calmer. Getting this kit together will take away the worry, and will last you for years of essential service. Extraordinary Times Chapter 5 is now available to download. Extraordinary Times is a predictive novel by the Belfast writer Rosemary Jenkinson. Rosemary’s vision for this cutting-edge, literary thriller, is to release a new chapter of the book every year using The Linen Hall Digital Platform – unless what she describes in the novel actually happens. In that case, Rosemary’s plan is to release the entire book, comprising 32 chapters, there and then. The novel, set in an imagined future in Belfast on the eve of a referendum on Irish unity, wittily charts how six interconnected characters navigate the fortnight leading up to the historic referendum and are inadvertently caught up in a violent plan to disrupt the vote. Start your journey today by downloading the first 5 chapters for free from our website: linenhall.com/extraordinary-… #LinenHall #OpeningMinds #Belfast

Dear friends, during some recent medical examinations, the doctors found a small, localized nodule in my lung. It was detected at a very early stage and is well-localized. The doctors believe that it is best to intervene, so, following their advice, I have decided to undergo surgery to remove it. The operation is already scheduled to take place in the coming days. I thank you for your spiritual closeness and entrust myself to your prayers.

10 Catholic churches were set on fire on 2 July 1998. In the following week there were 137 petrol-bomb attacks on Catholic or "mixed" homes In the early hours of 12th July 1998 one of those petrol bomb attacks resulted in the death of the 3 Quinn children You see no connection??
Replying to @ArnoldCarton
Throwing in the Quinn kids only highlights you for what you are. Nothing whatsoever to do with Drumcree. An urban myth.

Good morning, Twitter friends, This is Mary Buser, Frank’s co-author and dear friend. I am writing with the heartbreaking news that Frank De Palma has passed away. He died of natural causes, quickly and painlessly. As most of you know, Frank spent 22 years and 36 days in solitary confinement at Nevada’s Ely State prison. His isolation was extreme - no TV, no tablet, no books, magazines, no pen and paper — no outside agencies fighting his cause. He was consigned to stare at a wall for 22 years. It is unbelievable that he survived, and even more unbelievable that we would subject a human being to such treatment. During the last six years, he fell into a catatonic state and became nothing more than a hand reaching for a food tray. Miraculously, Frank came out of this state, no longer fully whole, but with his spirit fully intact. Released from prison at 62, Frank struggled, enduring homelessness, hopelessness, and failing health. Yet somehow he hung on, with only his precious writings in his pockets. Bit by bit, he met people who took an interest in him. Frank was a very likable person. As his story got around, he was asked to testify before the Nevada Senate Judiciary Committee as they were considering reforms to solitary confinement in their prisons. His testimony was devastating. It is there that I first met Frank, and as we got acquainted, we knew that his powerful writings were the basis for a book and together, we wrote, “Never to Surrender!” The first chapter is entirely in Frank’s words. The last few years were good. Frank had stable housing, new friends, and a dedication to what became his life’s purpose: “abolishing solitary confinement, and having it put on the books as a crime.” Frank was unabashed about telling anyone and everyone about solitary. There was not one Uber driver who did not learn about it, about his book, and about his story. In one of our recent conversations, Frank expressed frustration that ending solitary wasn’t happening fast enough. He would lay awake at night thinking about the estimated 122,000 people sitting in isolation cells across the country, despite the fact that humane options are available. As his health was failing and his mobility decreasing, Frank told me that if he had to, he would sit in a wheelchair on street corners passing out pamphlets on solitary & telling people his story. And he would have. Thankfully, he did not wind up in a wheelchair, but his broken body finally gave out. The good part of it was that he died as a free man, in the warmth of his home, while his precious blues music was playing in the background. Though Frank is gone, his story and his mission will continue. We will abolish solitary confinement. And now I will unabashedly ask all of you to learn more about Frank and solitary confinement. Please read his book, learn & together we can all end this torture. Frank De Palma is the most remarkable human being I’ve ever known, and I pray that he is resting easy now, his work done. Frank and I were in the habit of checking in every evening, just to say a quick good night, and as we hung up, he never failed to say to me, “ Sleep with the angels, Mary” And now, dear Frank, I say to you, “Sleep with the angels.”

#AsianHornet sighted in Cork by a member of the public. See vid below on how to identify. They are veracious killers of honeybees. Report.
🐝 Could you spot a Yellow-Legged Asian Hornet? Look for a dark body, single yellow-orange abdominal band, orange face and distinctive yellow-tipped legs. Save this comparison 🔎 and report suspected sightings via the Asian Hornet Watch app. #AsianHornet #Beekeeping
