NEW: Sources with knowledge of the high-level discussions between Stelco and Ottawa said the federal government “tried everything” to delay the layoffs, including short-term bridge financing, longer-term loans, retrofitting and access to new markets in Canada. “He quite literally said “nope”, we don’t want your help unless it’s a blank cheque to the tune of billions with no conditions,” the source said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive talks. globalnews.ca/news/12082768/… #onpoli #cdnpoli

Conservative MP Scott Aitchison confirming what’s been reported that he’s resigning his seat at the end of the fall session. #cdnpoli
I have made the difficult decision to resign my seat following the conclusion of the fall parliamentary session. After 30 years of public life, it is time for a new chapter where I will explore new opportunities. From being elected to Huntsville Town Council and Muskoka District Council at the age of 21, to serving as Mayor of Huntsville and, for the past seven years, as your Member of Parliament, it has been the honour of my lifetime to serve you and represent our community. Whether it was in the council chambers, or the halls of Ottawa, I worked to build consensus, cut through the bureaucracy, and make life better for the people who placed their trust in me. I carried myself with the same values of the town that raised me: respect, decency, and looking out for your neighbour. My time as Shadow Housing Minister has allowed me to contribute to a fundamental shift in the national debate on housing. All levels of government have recognized the burden over regulation and excessive taxes and fees place on housing affordability. Our Conservative team can be proud of the work we have done on this file and I know the team will continue this work after my departure. To the people of Parry Sound–Muskoka who placed their trust in me, and those who I disagreed with but promised passionate representation to, I hope I have made you proud. I want to thank my incredible staff who have served me and the people of Parry Sound–Muskoka with distinction. None of this would have been possible without you. To my caucus colleagues and Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, it has been a privilege to serve alongside you. I have been fortunate to meet Canadians from coast-to-coast who are counting on us to champion efforts to make life more affordable for all Canadians. I know you will continue this mission. Sincerely, Scott Aitchison, M.P.

So with an election call, likely date is Saturday, October 24th - also means Abbotsford-Mission byelection will end today - will be interesting to see if Findlay stays as the Conservative candidate or Reann Gasper tries to run for the seat she gave up last month.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre responds to Matt Jeneroux crossing the floor to the Liberals. #cdnpoli
Mark Carney is trying to seize a costly Liberal majority government that Canadians voted against in the last election through dirty backroom deals. Matt Jeneroux has betrayed the people of Edmonton Riverbend who voted for affordable food and homes, safe streets, and a strong resource sector. Conservatives will continue our fight for a Canada that's affordable, safe, and self-reliant.

#BREAKING: Prime Minister Mark Carney says Matt Jeneroux has joined the Liberals. Last year, prior to the budget vote, Jeneroux had announced he planned to resign his seat before the spring.
I am honoured to welcome Matt Jeneroux to our caucus as the newest member of Canada’s new government. Building a stronger, more resilient, and more independent country will require ambition, collaboration, and occasionally, sacrifice. I am grateful to Matt and his family that he will continue his service as a strong voice for Edmonton Riverbend in Parliament. For more than a decade, Matt has been entrusted by Albertans to help shape a stronger future. He was first elected to Alberta’s Legislature in 2012 and to Canada’s Parliament in 2015 — earning four consecutive mandates in the House of Commons. In Ottawa, he has taken on portfolios that are central to Canada’s economic strength, security, and national resilience — including as Shadow Minister for supply chains, innovation, infrastructure, health, and housing. He is a strong voice in international engagement and parliamentary diplomacy, having served as Vice-Chair of the Canada-UK Interparliamentary Association and Founder of the Canada-ASEAN Parliamentary Group, and building direct working relationships with lawmakers across NATO, Europe, Asia, Africa, the United States and the OSCE. As a new special advisor on economic and security partnerships, Matt’s leadership will contribute to strengthening Canada’s alliances and trade partnerships, advancing Canada’s leadership in global security cooperation, and building our strength at home. The world has changed, and Canada must change with it. This is a time to come together — and together, we will build a stronger future for Edmonton, Alberta, and all Canadians.
