GitHub is banning the people who study malware while its own users are getting hit by supply chain attacks. Deleting the source code doesn't stop a single attacker, it only blinds the defenders who protect us.
Hello Unfortunately, @GitHub has banned us. They have orbital nuked the entire malware source code collection.

Ola Bini (ep 163) has been emergency deported from Ecuador. He has returned to Sweden. He's not sure why. But was unable to bring anything with him from the home he lived in for a decade. If you haven't heard his story go listen. It's harrowing darknetdiaries.com/episode/1…

Need a perspective change on life? Listen to LOW.
I’ve been listening to LOW since yesterday, and I must say, it’s really changing my perception of what it means to actually live. This is the lifelong lesson I think I really need at this point in my life. @JackRhysider, you really put in a lot of good work piecing this together.

New: from 404 Media. The catastrophic FBI hack also exposed the FBI's own hacking unit. The Remote Operations Unit is a highly secretive part of the FBI, responsible for making tools to break into peoples' devices. Some of their names are in the data 404media.co/fbi-hack-exposed…

I spoke with Andy Yen, CEO of Proton, which has encrypted the daily online work/comms a hundred million-plus people. We talked in particular about Proton's surprising embrace of AI tools. Yen says "AI is surveillance." He also says it's "unavoidable." wired.com/story/the-big-inte…

Replying to @OpenAI
@OpenAI just launched a new feature last night called Computer History. For DFIR analysts, this is a new artifact class worth knowing about. I turned it on on my MacBook, parsed the artifacts, and it produced about 3,616 timeline events from ~2 hours of normal work. While Computer History is on, it logs input, app focus, and what was on screen, then stores it on the Mac. It keeps a timed record of what you clicked, typed, and opened, including chats in Slack, WhatsApp, Telegram, and other apps. That record stays on the Mac. IRFlow-Timeline 1.0.10 now parses those Computer History artifacts and builds a timeline of the activity, so you can walk the investigation instead of grepping raw cache files. On a compromised Mac, this shows what was typed, clicked, and read. Not just that the app was installed. #dfir #incidentresponse #openai #computerhistory

This is a pretty big shift in U.S. cyber policy. The White House is setting up a program that would let private cybersecurity companies conduct government-authorized operations against foreign cybercriminal groups, including surveillance and disruption of their infrastructure. Not exactly “hack back,” but definitely a major expansion of the private sector’s role in offensive cyber operations. whitehouse.gov/presidential-…
