TEACHERS & PARENTS
I’d love you to join me on a journey through the weather of 2026. With my weather calendar, I’ll help you meet key Curriculum for Excellence outcomes while exploring real, live weather with children across the year.
This will be Scotland’s biggest real-time weather learning experience for children in 2026. I’ll also be visiting a small number of schools next year to support weather projects in person.
If you’d like me to visit your school, just mention it below.

This is history in the making. 🌚
Unless you’re over 72 and from Unst, this will be the second biggest solar eclipse visible from Scotland in your lifetime.
And now… it’s only days away!

Getting a bit noisy over Skye and north Highlands with nearly 100 lightning strikes in the last few hours ⚡️
Prestwick becomes Scotland’s hottest place so far in 2026 with the temperature hitting 29.6C in the last hour.
Hoppy white Easter from up the hills! Spotted a wee bunny on our morning walk today, and yes I did carry it back home. Yes, I am a bit crazy! 🙈❄️🐰❄️
Feeling lovely in the sunshine over Edinburgh, helping Scotland reach its warmest day of the year so far. A temperature of 14.6°C was recorded just after 1pm.
Nothing to get too excited about just yet… but today is officially Scotland’s warmest day of the year so far.
Drumnadrochit in the Highlands reached 14°C — even though it's been raining.
Meanwhile, it was also the UK’s warmest day, with London climbing to 19°C… a number we might have to wait a little longer to see up here!
We’ve yet to reach 12°C anywhere in Scotland this year. It’s the longest wait for that mark in 40 years — the last time it took this long was in 1986, when 12°C wasn’t recorded until March 4.
For comparison, somewhere in Scotland reached 15°C in January in each of the past four years: 2025, 2024, 2023 and 2022.

Here's how the rain shadow has looked in the north of the country. On the windward side of the hills the likes of Glen Isla and Glenesk in Angus have had about 100mm of rain in the last 36 hours. As the air has dried out and descended into areas such as Moy, Culloden, Dingwall and Loch Ness there's been little to no rainfall in the rain shadow. Today is such a great example of how orographic rainfall works
Today is a textbook example of a rain shadow. Moisture moving in from the south-east has brought heavy rainfall to the Southern Uplands and southern Grampians, where up to 65 mm has fallen in the past 36 hours. Meanwhile, North and East Ayrshire sit on the lee side of the hills, making conditions much drier. Most of the rain has already been squeezed out of the clouds before reaching the area, with just 1 mm recorded in Stewarton over the same period!
On this day in 1982, Braemar recorded Scotland’s lowest ever temperature of −27.2°C — a useful bit of context when we look at some of the overnight lows we’ve seen in recent weeks.
Remarkably, Scotland has hit this exact temperature on three separate occasions: February 1895, January 1982 and December 1995. It’s almost as if −27.2°C is the absolute coldest it can get in Scotland.🥶
Some heavy sleet and snow showers running into eastern areas and looking like they’ll drift further west into Lanarkshire, Kinross, Stirlingshire and across Edinburgh & Lothians in the coming hours. A more prolonged spell of heavy sleet and snow at times across Angus, Dundee and Aberdeenshire. ❄️
