More than half of Alberta doctors surveyed say they would leave the province if Alberta became an independent country, according to a new Alberta Medical Association survey.
Of the 1,649 physicians who responded, 55% said they would move to another province or territory and stop practising in Alberta. Only 15% said they would continue living and practising in an independent Alberta, while 18% were undecided.
The AMA warns that losing physicians could put further pressure on Alberta’s health-care system, with questions also remaining about how an independent province would replace federal health-care funding.
