SMSA’s Ross Murray visited a busy Inverness Men’s Shed! From 160 bird boxes and school partnerships to clocks, guitars, benches and crafts, there’s plenty happening. But as one Shedder said: “It’s the social, the chat, that does it for me.”

Loch Lomond Shores Water Safety Event Stewart represented the SMSA at a fantastic day of networking, water safety demos & sharing the positive impact of Men’s Sheds. Great to make new connections and signpost people to their local Shed. We’d be delighted to return next year! 👍

SMSA visited Strathaven Avondale Men’s Shed (SAMShed) at their temporary home in The Drawing Room. After plenty of laughs and Shed limericks, we heard about exciting plans for a permanent home in the public park. Great community support—here’s hoping it’s not long now!

2/2 Peterhead Shed has created a fantastic space across a number of containers, including woodworking, engineering, social and kitchen areas. The Shed’s strong community focus and ‘can-do’ spirit were clear during our visit. Great to see the plans for future growth! 👏

2/2 GEMS has exciting plans for a new, larger Shed near the junior football pitches and beach. For 10+ years, members have supported their community through repairs, construction, school projects and bike servicing. Brian wishes them every success in getting plans approved 🚲🔨

1/2 SMSA Development Officer Brian McWilliam visited GEMS Men’s Shed in Montrose, aka the ‘Gable Enders’. Welcomed by Chair Alan Hogg, Brian enjoyed the sunshine, banter and hearing about the Shed’s work and strong community spirit 👍

Acharacle MS now has 11 members & 10yr lease on an old boat house on the banks of Loch Shiel gifted by Frances Brown. The community are behind them with lots of praise on Facebook & in-person. Thanks to Archaracle Community Company who supported them & gave a room to meet in👍

10 men attended a Shed-Wise session at Lybster Shed. Great interaction covering many health-related topics with most sharing experiences. Completed evaluations – 7 men are now more likely to seek medical advice & 7 intend to conduct more body checks on themselves as a result👍

Turning up for each other 👏 Great to get around the table with the Greater Glasgow & Clyde Sheds Network, sharing ideas, skills and support between Sheds. A huge thanks to Houston & Killellan Kirk MS for hosting & showcasing their fantastic new Shed site.

3/3 This disused building taken over from the Council in 2019, has been transformed by the Forfar Shedders. They’ve also delivered community projects from mud kitchens & friendship benches for schools to picnic tables, noticeboards & refurbished benches 👍

2/3 Forfar Shed also has a community garden & summerhouse, with raised beds & impressive polytunnel. ‘Head Gardener’ Ron has developed a solar-powered hydroponic watering system & showcased the black grapes growing in the tunnel, destined for the Forfar Horticultural Show 🍇

1/3 SMSA Officer Brian is always impressed by the varied activities he sees at Sheds, and on visiting Forfar & District Men’s Shed, he added beekeeping to his list! 🐝 The Shed has installed three beehives and they’re hopeful of getting their first batch of honey next year! 👍
