As a coach you must create an effective tension for your athlete’s development. It’s like getting the high wire tension right for the artiste. The tension is created between support and challenge. Too much of either compromises progress. Effective tension is about judgement

Training an athlete is more than putting together a collection of exercises. Do the exercises fit the athlete? Are they appropriate for the level of development & time of the training year. Get past exercises (ingredients), stop being a short order cook and be a master chef.

Our best competitors reveal our weaknesses. The goal is not to "beat" our competition but rather to improve ourselves.

Coaches: take the uncontrollables and extreme language and shift them: Turn the word 'win' into 'compete' Turn the word 'outcome' into 'process' Turn the word 'must' into 'would like' Turn the word 'disaster' into 'disappointed' Engage in a psychologically informed environment!

Please don’t tell me what you can’t do; I am not interested in that. I want to know what you can do and what you will do. Define your possibilities not your limits. Figure out how to be the best you can be and start doing it now!

Coaching is a process grounded in pedagogy, supported by science, forged in experience, tested in competition. It is something you are with every fiber of your being. It is teaching life through sport because it is about people not training methods. Being a coach is special

Congrats to the TW Hunter girls, who defeated Tennessee’s best to win the ultra-competitive KYA Middle School State Championship! They’ve consistently plugged away the last three years moving from 18th to 8th and now, 1st.

Let's vote for Zaely Tilt!
This group had a big day yesterday! While the focus of the MS program is to enjoy the process and learn the basics, they aren’t afraid to compete on race day.
Congrats to TW Hunter Middle School! The girls placed three in the top six and seven in the top 21 to win the TMSAA State Championship. The boys also surprised with a second place finish.

We'd love to see @MainStreetPreps do something similar. We have a large and competitive cross country community in Sumner County. The most competitive TN meet outside of the State Championships takes place in Hendersonville this weekend.

I’m told that proper sleep improves performance by at least 1%. A good diet another 1% & all the little ancillary things another 1% That 3% is the difference between a 4:00 mile & 3:52.8. A 2:10 marathon & a 2:06. We can debate the %’s there is no debating doing the right thing.

Less than five minutes into using my new chainsaw and I can’t say I’m surprised.

Runner Logic: I would never dream of grilling on my back deck in long boxer shorts, but I don’t think twice about doing it in a pair of my daisy duke running shorts.
