I miss when people could disagree about something, argue for 20 minutes, and then go grab a burger together like nothing happened. Now one disagreement can end a friendship that's lasted years. It's ridiculous.

Canada is living through a real-life version of The Emperor’s New Clothes. We are increasingly expected to ignore what we can see with our own eyes, deny what we know to be true, and repeat things we don’t believe simply because someone in a position of authority has decided they’re the correct things to say. We’ve created a society in which certain subjects are sacred, certain questions are forbidden, and certain conclusions must be reached before the conversation has even begun. We have data showing us where things are going wrong, but instead of getting angry about the problems, people get angry at the data. Apparently, pointing out that the emperor is naked is now more offensive than the fact that he’s walking around without pants. Our institutions have become increasingly obsessed with policing not just what people do, but what they think. Employers demand approved opinions. Organizations enforce approved language. And mandatory training sessions increasingly resemble ideological re-education dressed up as professional development. All of this is presented as progress. But what exactly are we progressing towards? A society where intelligent adults are afraid to ask obvious questions? Where disagreement is treated as a moral failing? Where facts are only acceptable when they support the approved narrative? We’ve become so terrified of offending one another that we’ve forgotten how to speak to one another. And perhaps most absurdly, we’ve confused disagreement with hatred. Your political opponents are not your enemies. Someone who disagrees with your ideas is not automatically a fascist, a Nazi, a racist, or whatever other accusation happens to be fashionable this week. You can believe someone is profoundly wrong without believing they are profoundly evil. You can challenge a policy without attacking a person’s humanity. And you can acknowledge an uncomfortable fact without endorsing every possible interpretation of it. A functioning society requires the ability to do all three. Because the purpose of free speech isn’t to guarantee that everyone agrees. It’s to make it possible for us to discover where we’re wrong, identify what’s broken, and work out how to fix it. I believe we should be able to stand up and say, “Excuse me, but the emperor has no clothes.” And instead of spending the next six months investigating the motives, political affiliations, and moral character of the person who pointed it out, perhaps we could do something revolutionary. Get the emperor some freaking clothes.

You may not like the team but you have to love Paul! 👇
“And I don’t want to give everybody what they want with the 2 Chucky brothers together with Sam Bennett in the middle. They’ll be in jail before the puck drops.” Paul Maurice is sparing the world from the CHAOS of a Tkachuk-Bennett-Tkachuk line. 😂

Good interview!
Mark Warner on CBC: tit-for-tat tariffs punish the smaller partner Canada is one-tenth the U.S. economy. Trade lawyer Mark Warner’s point is blunt: “When you get into a tit for tat war, it is going to be felt more on the Canadian side than the American side… They won’t feel it as much.” Targeting states to swing Congress is a strategy from when protectionism lived on the Hill. It doesn’t now. “The problem we have is with Mr. Trump, who doesn’t really care about Congress” His alternative is a deal. They were close. Steel and aluminum tariffs are not vanishing; other countries accepted that and moved on. Britain’s one-pager with Trump may be a post it note of a trade deal, and Starmer is not treating it as an existential fight. “They’re not doing what Mr. Carney’s doing, nobody’s doing it.” Calling tariff harmonization a sovereignty surrender “doesn’t make any sense to me as a trade lawyer.” High-leverage cards—potash, energy—invite a bigger stick and logistical blowback. “If they do play them, I think that the response will be nuclear.” Midterms will not ride to the rescue. Democrats are the traditional party of protectionism. Boxing yourself in with no off-ramp “is not great negotiation, especially if you’re the weaker party.” The integration exists because of the agreement. Preserve it @MAAWLAW

Great piece on Pro D2 👇
A piece from Matt Cotton in the Oz that will stir some debate I’m sure. FRANCE SECOND DIVISION STILL BEATS SUPER RUGBY If the Top 14 is the planet’s paramount prize, perhaps the Pro D2 is the second-best league in the world. France just has rugby all figured out. This week, it returns.

Now he’s bringing all of that experience to the hooker position in the Championship. This is what ambition looks like. Welcome to the Titans, Dewald. #RotherhamTitans #BecomingATitan #ChampRugby

This! 👇
The NHL is in a tough spot right now. Teams are locked into deals with zero realistic out clauses or buyouts that don’t destroy the cap. Yet players keep demanding full NMCs, then turn around and force trades to their 4-5 preferred “contenders” only. Player empowerment is one thing. This is something else entirely. The league’s balance of power has shifted too far.

So sad...
The Mayor of Charlotte is demanding people stop posting this reminder of the lovely innocent Iryna Zarutska butchered by a savage on Charlotte public transit. He was on probation by a liberal activist judge.

Not a single purchaser of crude oil in the world asks nor cares about the carbon footprint of the barrel, instead is 100% focused on accessibility, affordability, and reliability. I do not see how we overcome this massive misunderstanding which underpins all ongoing negotiations.
