This is why @MeetRadial exists... for innovation to get to scale.
We are thrilled to share a major milestone for the Johns Hopkins Center for Psychedelic and Consciousness Research: @CeydaSayali, PhD, has received an R01 award from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) — the first R01 awarded to an investigator at our Center. The study will test a novel treatment approach for alcohol use disorder (AUD) combining psilocybin with personalized repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS). This is the first study to investigate this combination for AUD, with rTMS targets individualized using fMRI to identify each participant’s brain circuitry involved in regulating alcohol craving. Using fMRI and TMS-EEG, the study will also examine how this combined intervention changes the neural mechanisms underlying craving, cognitive control, and treatment response. By integrating psychedelic pharmacology, personalized brain stimulation, and multimodal neuroscience, this work aims to advance both treatment development and our understanding of how brain-based interventions can reduce problematic alcohol use. Congratulations to Dr. Sayalı and the research team on this important achievement and exciting new direction for the Center.

To whom it may concern, About 40% of physicians have a side gig. They are pursuing a career interest outside medicine despite being overworked and time-strapped. Why? Because many are desperate to escape a toxic healthcare system that has betrayed them.

🍄 Another article on the psychedelic frontier: "Genevieve Jurvetson, and her husband, Steve, a venture capitalist, are supporting a Johns Hopkins study exploring whether psilocybin might be able to help stroke victims regain motor control. The couple also plans to support studies into whether psychedelics could treat neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. “There’s a recognition that we have a mental health crisis and that much of what we are currently doing is not working for a lot of people,” says Taylor West, executive director of the Healing Advocacy Fund, which helps expand state-regulated access to psychedelic healing. “That’s driving increasing interest in these treatments as a new tool.” West’s group is working in three states — Colorado, New Mexico, and Oregon — that have approved controlled access to psychedelics. Oregon’s program, which won approval in 2020, has already helped more than 20,000 people go on psilocybin journeys. [essentially, a huge experiment in safety and efficacy] So far, most philanthropic support has come from individual donors and small and medium-size grant makers like the Cain Foundation. Among the biggest funders in psychedelic healing are the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation, which has given more than $69 million for research; the soap company executive David Bronner, who helped bankroll a ballot measure in Oregon; the lifestyle guru Tim Ferriss; and the Jurvetson Foundation. Together, these donors aren’t just etching a road map for the adoption of a once-controversial treatment; they’re demonstrating that philanthropic dollars, when spent strategically, can have an outsize impact on research, policy, and public awareness." — from philanthropy.com/news/as-psy… — join us! To whom it may concern, Stop gaslighting physicians who are not willing to sacrifice themselves at the altar of medicine. Refusing to self-sacrifice does not mean someone lacks a strong work ethic. It means one knows their priorities and has the courage to advocate for them. Medicine does not have to be your entire identity.
