2 years ago, I found the saddest cat in the shelter and took him home.

Here we go again.
John Cleese โ the comedian and national treasure โ has been reported to the Governmentโs counter-extremism programme, Prevent, over his social media posts about Islam.
The ability to criticise, debate, challenge and mock a religion is a fundamental right in Britain. Parliament voted to abolish our blasphemy laws in 2008 โ 18 years ago. Yet it appears we now have one for Islam alone.
The official Islamophobia definition โ repackaged as โanti-Muslim hostilityโ โ has emboldened those who wish to silence criticism of Islam.
One of Johnโs posts in question reads: โI personally prefer a culture that does not approve of FGM, child marriage and killing infidels.โ
The Islamic website 5Pillars reports that the complainant described Johnโs posts as โdehumanising and collectively attributing violence and criminality to Muslimsโ, and assessed the risk as โmoderate to highโ.
Enough is enough. This madness must stop. We cannot allow an Islam-specific blasphemy law to take root.
We stand with @JohnCleese and are ready to help him should he need it.

British comedian John Cleese has been named in a Prevent referral over a series of incendiary posts about Muslims and Islam.
Among the posts highlighted to the counter extremism authorities, which 5Pillars has seen, Cleese wrote of a culture โwhose holy book advocates the killing of all the people they disagree withโ and said Britain was โunder attack from Muslim belief systems, especially the Koranic...โ
He also wrote: โI personally prefer a culture that does not approve of FGM, Child Marriage and Killing Infidels.โ
Cleese also reposted content referring to Islam as โthe religion of paedophiles.โ
The complainant describes the pattern as dehumanising and collectively attributing violence and criminality to Muslims and assesses the risk as โModerate to High."

A number of men arrested on suspicion of actual terror offences get bail.
Are you trying as hard as possible to lay out our two-tier criminal justice system? Because you couldnโt have done it more effectively.

It's depressing that time and again policymakers spout nonsense about gas markets and then use these misconceptions as the basis for policy
My new report sets out in detail how gas markets actually work and why prices are not "global"
Once you understand that there's not even a single European price never mind a single global price, and that UK gas prices now tend to be lower than European ones, it becomes obvious that we need to maximise UKCS production
Yet we use pessimistic projections based on a highly hostile fiscal and regulatory landscape as "proof" the UKCS is on its last legs and is becoming irrelevant
Alternative forecasts from @OEUK_ show significant upside potential if a more encouraging regime was adopted - the geology is the same but the economic context can be changed
The first of my six recommendations is to fix the broken understanding of how the gas market actually works - do this and much of the rest becomes pretty clear

My initial falling out with @jonronson was because he objected to me 'publicising' attacks by trans identified men on women in prison. Until that moment, I thought he'd be as angry as me, as angry as Ted Cruz is here, about an ongoing crime against humanity.
There is something deeply satisfying about watching the giant fog machine fail.
A judge does something absurd, dresses it up in the language of compassion and theory, then discovers that an American Senate hearing is one of those inconvenient places where someone may actually read the words aloud and ask what the hell they mean.
No euphemisms. No activist jargon. No institutional shrug.

Joshua Hindle, 30, who brutally attacked and strangled a woman in her home inflicting cuts, bruises and bite marks on her face, has walked free.
The woman had asked Hindle to leave her property, he took her phone, smashed her phone against a wall and then attacked her.
Defence said had a "good work ethic and was low risk of reoffending".
In her victim impact statement, the woman said she can no longer trust anyone, feels vulnerable in her own home, and it no longer feels safe.
Recorder Kenderik Horne handed Hindle a 16-month prison sentence suspended for two years, 25 "rehab days" & just a 10 year restraining order.

A female civil servant going to the media to say that the special forces who served in Afghanistan aren't the hero's they think they are is the perfect illustration of how our entire society is being castrated by HR ladies.

Meanwhile the trial for the murder of Ann Widdecombe has been scheduled for June 2027. The courts can move quickly when they want to scare people. And slowly when they want the people to forget.
Danny Tommo has been charged with criminal damage and will appear in court today - the speed of this process is absolutely astonishing.
We're told it's in the 'public interest' to pursue criminal proceedings.
All individuals are entitled to the same treatment before the law, regardless of what the establishment may think of said individual.
The pace of incident to arrest to charge to court for Danny Tommo is rapid, to say the least.
I will be watching very closely.

Animal rights campaigner Anneka Svenska had two police officers turn up at her door and tell her to accept a police record, attend an โonline thinkingโ course or face arrest over comments she made on social media about the incineration of beagles at a company that breeds dogs for use in medical research.
They threatened to arrest her under Section 179 of the Online Safety Act unless she accepted these conditions.
Thankfully, Anneka refused to accept the โcommunity resolution disposalโ, which would have remained on her police record. After she engaged a lawyer, the case was dropped.
This thinking course is deeply sinister. It is essentially a combination of a speed awareness course for your thoughts and a therapy session aimed at changing the way people think.
It is the medicalisation of wrongthink. And it isnโt free: one police force charges ยฃ175 to attend.
