We need an ANTI-FASCIST ECONOMICS which puts a floor under people's livelihoods and a ceiling on the extreme concentration of power and wealth. 🔗 Today I am launching my new YouTube channel: youtu.be/Wj_GdHSo7PU

Membership of the EU for an independent Scotland is incompatible with a wellbeing economy, argue @Williamgallus and @DEhnts, owing to the EU's fiscal rules. patreon.com/file?h=154082757…

The Bank of England cannot solve supply-side inflation by raising rates. Our analysis of the May 2026 decision shows monetary tightening is blocking fiscal tools that actually work. #MMT #economics #UKEconomy mmtuk.org/research/the-wrong…

Joan Robinson knew that economics isn't a neutral science—it’s all about power. We don't need more unthinking economists parroting econ class teachings. We need rethinkers ready to push for an economy that serves people and planet. If you agree, join the movement. ✊

"Where all government money comes from. We instruct the BoE to create the currency to command resources, and if they are available, we buy them. The problem is real resources. We need to find them. But we don't need to find the money to buy those." Next question.
Andy Burnham is asked, where will the money come from (for social care)? #bbclaurak

Raising interest rates will not reduce inflation. So why does it seem impossible to challenge this long-established response to rising prices? Legitimate concerns exist about central banks' current response. Thread. 1/8

Nice! We would add that most introductions to heterodox schools take you usefully beyond mainstream economics.
It takes one #MMT book to get beyond the frontier of economoc research. Way beyond. 🤯

Given the rise of the far right across Western democracies we have proof that the notion of "sound government finances" (austerity and unemployment) is incompatible with both democracy and wellbeing.
Between this and the British triple lock etc. are we basically proving democracy is incompatible with sound government finance?

Excellent! Now is the time to have this conversation. The insights of MMT can help break the doom loop of “taxpayer money” that has every country paralysed in a neoliberal nightmare of extreme inequality, wars, climate catastrophe, and environmental collapse.
IT'S TIME TO START TALKING ABOUT MMT AGAIN In the newsletter, I wrote about how in our time of persistently high inflation, a high cost of living, and ongoing strain on industrial capacity, MMT wisdom (once again!) shines a light towards a policy path that may be helpful.

The end of the end of history. The Economist now sees Leninism as the reason for China’s competitiveness. Wasn’t a whole-of-state approach supposed to be doomed? China’s escape from shock therapy was the first existential blow to neoliberalism. This is the nail in its coffin.
"MOFCOM is correct, China is competitive. But what foreign firms compete against isn't just supple, hard-driving Chinese firms but a whole-of-state approach to industry. Foreign firms stand little chance against a Leninist developmental state of China’s size, wealth & modernity"

Same old same old. Growth as the only way to have the things that most of us had when the economy was half the size. And yet they keep banging the same tired old drum.
People feeling cost of living crisis because earnings have barely grown in two decades. Only sustainable way to tackle this is through growth. Subsidies won’t be sustainable and may hinder progress. New PM must focus on long term solutions not short term sticking plasters.

Economics can either enable the slide toward fascism, or defend affordability, dignity, and democracy. I wrote ANTI-FASCIST ECONOMICS with my baby by my side—a constant reminder that the future should be livable for all. Out in October with @randomhouse.
