New, barely sane, work @superrare with 0.1ETH reserve. "Serpentine Finance Future".
There is a theatre that opens inside your head, and Mikhail Bulgakov described it better than anyone. In his unfinished Theatrical Novel (written 1936–37, published in 1965, known in English as Black Snow). The writer Maksudov sits up at night over his manuscript. Slowly a picture rises from the white page. It is not flat. It is a little box, lit from inside, and in it the figures of his novel move, speak and cross the stage. Maksudov does not invent them any more; he watches and writes down what he sees. We all have a box like that, let's call it the theatre in the head.
I am leaving for that theatre.
From now on I plan to live inside and film the shows. I will sit in the dark with my computer and attempt to record what the box puts on. What comes back from there will be recordings of performances, not inventions. My camera is a strange one. It does not shoot pixels. It shoots cells.
The last play: a serpentine dance about the world of finance The latest play in the theatre in the head is Serpentine Finance Future, a serpentine dance about the world of finance. It runs 4 minutes 19 seconds and loops forever, like a market that never closes.
As reminded me by a wonderful artist @annamalina, its dancer comes from the 1890s. Loïe Fuller turned the serpentine dance into a sensation: yards of silk swung on batons, lit by coloured gels, until the body disappeared into a storm of fabric. The early films of the dance were tinted by hand, frame by frame, so the colour boils and slips off the silk. I watched those films until the figure started moving in my box. She is the market's body: beautiful, unstable, always turning.
The stage is a spreadsheet. The theatre in the head looks, from the outside, like an spreadsheet window: title bar, ribbon, formula bar, column letters, row numbers, sheet tabs. Finance happens in spreadsheets, so this play is staged in one. Every frame, thousands of cells are recomputed, and each cell can only be what a spreadsheet cell can be. Click any cell and the formula bar tells you what it is, for example =BORDER("double", …, PATTERN("lightUp", …, GRADIENT(45, …))). Finance enters through the cells themselves: in Ledger the dancer is a table of numbers that turn green when they rise and red, in brackets, when they fall; in Whirlwind price charts climb behind her in green and crash in red, like a terminal at the end of the world.
The play is seventeen sheets long, and each sheet tab is an act: you can click a tab to jump there, or loop it.
Music, film and the 1/1.
The score is my own:
Enter Nikshumika – Finance Future (Academy), out as a single on Spotify. Everything endd with darkness. That darkness is the inside of the theatre in the head. It is where I am. I will keep filming when something new comes on.
Now live!!!
