Our first paper on the temperate coral Astrangia poculata is out! Read more about this most excellent model system below. Exciting collaboration with @BabonisLeslie, @SharpKoty !

Short video of a very gravid Northern Star coral (Astrangia poculata) colony spawning in the lab. Look at that thing go!
Excited to share our latest preprint on the stony coral Astrangia poculata! We present a suite of tools to manipulate gene function including gene knock-in positioning Astrangia as a powerful model for coral development and evolution. More here 👇:

This was a huge effort by all involved including @SharpKoty , @r_besemer30 , @ErinBorbee @IssyChangsut , @BabonisLeslie , @SchickleAlicia
It's that time of year again! Waiting for corals to spawn. These colonies are going on their 4th season of captive reproduction.

The #BabonisLab is hiring a postdoc to study the evolution of novelty. Come work with us on cool questions in cool critters (like this octocoral!) For more info: babonislab.com To apply: academicjobsonline.org/ajo/j…
Please RT! My lab is recruiting a PhD student for an NSF funded project to examine the gene network wiring of Antarctic sea urchins. We hope to hear from you by Dec 1st. For more information please reach out via email

The #BabonisLab is hiring a postdoc! We are interested in the evolution of novelty so we study the development of weird stuff in marine invertebrate embryos.
Check us out: babonislab.com
Review of applications starts May 1. To apply, visit: academicjobsonline.org/ajo/j…
Astrangia embryos are just the best. Love this model system!
Left: 4 hours old Northern star coral embryo (astrangia poculata), right: 24 hours old undergoing gastrulation.
It turns out those 'low-impact' gene expression studies are super helpful to resolve cell types in scRNAseq data. Very thankful for researchers and editors who see value in descriptive studies.

My team at Illumina has been hiring like crazy for the last couple months and for some reason I was stupid and didn't post about it on Twitter. We're looking for anyone in the broad field of understanding what genomes do. If you're interested in talking about it, my DMs are open!
