Very stoked to see my 1st first-author paper out in world! For a long time it's been assumed that all sponge-derived natural products are made by microbes, but we found that the sponge animal actually makes terpenes. pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.22…

Several years ago, I wrote a 2-page guide on how to give a killer narratively-driven scientific talk. I called it "The David Attenborough Method", in homage to the master storyteller. xitter.cf/wc_ratcliff/status/949…
I recently expanded upon it in a short essay: authors.elsevier.com/a/1hRhv…
I teach a class on how to give a great scientific talk. The core idea is that humans absorb information effortlessly if it is delivered as a compelling story. I call it the 'David Attenborough' method, in honor of the master. Attached is my style guide. #scicomm @Attenboroughs_D
Excellent paper describing a bunch of new California sponges, including the one I studied during my PhD. @tomleeturner is a great resource for sponge taxonomy and I would highly recommend his expertice to any marine natural product scientists who need help with sponge IDs.

Whenever a marine sponge makes a natural product it is really made by the microbiome, right? Turns out... Not always!! Super excited about our new paper by @ScienceSiren_ with @BurkhardtImmo @taysteele_ @BradMoore_SIO @moorelabsio &others at @Scripps_Ocean

I stand in strong solidarity with the 48,000 academic workers at the University of California who are on strike for higher wages, better child care benefits, and expanded paid leave.
Today, everyone knows who's got the power.
Now it's time for @UofCalifornia to settle fair contracts with all 48,000 workers who make this University run.

Thrilled to share our latest @nchembio publication by @BurkhardtImmo @Tristan_enzymes @thePYTC that #octocorals biosynthesize powerful terpenoids and have been doing it longer than in plants. These primitive animals are remarkable medicinal chemists! nature.com/articles/s41589-0…
