Last month, acclaimed climate scientist Prof Katharine Hayhoe from @nature_org gave an impactful lecture at #NTUsg on #climatechange, urging scientists to go beyond presenting hard data and scientific findings to inspire hope and guide individuals on the actions that they can take to mitigate climate change. She emphasised that protecting the planet also safeguards humanity, with climate solutions benefiting climate resilience, biodiversity, and even economic growth. The lecture was part of the $50M EOS Climate Transformation Programme, dedicated to advancing climate solutions and shaping future leaders. #NTUsgSustainability#ClimateChange #ClimateAction #HopeForThePlanet

Quantum leap to TikTok fame: #NTUsgClassof2024 graduate Randy Tan has made a mark with his electrifying physics lessons on TikTok, simplifying complex quantum physics concepts for his audience — setting him apart as a prominent creator on the #NTUsg School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) TikTok channel. Despite suffering from hearing loss since childhood which made following lessons and understanding social interactions difficult especially in the face of COVID-19 restrictions, Randy successfully juggled multiple part-time jobs during his undergraduate years, which included providing affordable tuition to help low-income students. Next up? A tuition business and a PhD in Astrophysics. Well done, Randy! ntu.sg/HEY58-Randy #heyNTU @NTU_SPMS @ScienceNTU

Congrats to #NTUsg alumna and @astarsg scientist Dr Leow Wan Ru, who won the 🏅L'Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science 2023 award for her #research on using #greenenergy to power chemical reactions instead of conventional high-heat. Her research has a significant impact on #sustainability as #chemicalmanufacturing is responsible for a significant amount of carbon dioxide emissions. #NTUsgAlumni #NTUsgEducation @CCEB_NTU @sciencentu – at West Region, Singapore

Groundbreaking progress in #peatlandrestoration: Scientists from #NTUsg and the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) have devised an innovative approach using satellite data to measure #carbon stored in bogs. This aids in #environmentalimpact assessments while reducing the need for on-site sampling. ntu.sg/Carbon-in-bogs #NTUsgResearch #NTUsgSustainability #Sustainability @EOS_SG @ntu_ase @ScienceNTU

Ahead of #COP28, #NTUsg scientists have sounded an alarm on the potential loss of vital coastal habitats in the next three decades.
