We need clearer answers about microplastics and our health. That’s why I formed a Congressional task force, wrote the Plastics Health Research Act, and corralled researchers and industry to support it. Let’s get this done!! cnn.com/2026/10/15/health/vi…

The #NobelPrize in Chemistry 2026 recognises discoveries that have enabled chemists to drive chemical reactions that lead to homochirality. Life’s chemistry is what chemists call homochiral, after the Greek words for “same” and “hand”. Like hands, all amino acids exist as two mirrored variants, but only one of them is found in the proteins in your cells. The other is rarely found in nature. For a long time, chemists wondered how homochirality can emerge. When they began to experiment with chemical reactions that can form two mirrored molecules, they always obtained equal proportions of both in their test tubes. However, chemists strived to produce only one of these mirror images, because in the development of molecules that will interact with living beings – such as in pharmaceuticals – only one mirror image will have the desired effect. Thanks to laureates Henri Kagan and Kenso Soai, we now know how homochirality can emerge. Their discoveries have been decisive for chemists who design reactions for the manufacture of pharmaceuticals.

Congratulations to Francis Halzen on winning the 2026 @NobelPrize in physics for his major contributions to the U.S. National Science Foundation IceCube Neutrino Observatory and its discoveries of elusive neutrino particles that come to Earth from distant places in the universe. For more than two decades, NSF has invested in the design, construction, and ongoing operations of NSF IceCube, enabling a deeper understanding of astrophysical neutrinos and their origins.

More than a century ago, at Mount Wilson Observatory in the San Gabriel Mountains, astronomers made the groundbreaking discovery that a vast universe lies beyond our Milky Way galaxy. Today, I introduced a resolution to designate October 5th as National Beyond the Milky Way Day, celebrating this landmark discovery and the pioneering work of Carnegie Science astronomers whose research fundamentally transformed our understanding of the universe.

”I hope this reflects on the really courageous people who joined me in the beginning of this project when no respectable conservative physicists would have joined me, but many talented people did, and that’s why I’m here.” - Speaking at today's prize announcement, Francis Halzen says the most rewarding part of being awarded the 2026 #NobelPrize in Physics is recognising the people who have worked alongside him.

AI chatbots are becoming more human-like, and we need to make sure they’re not designed to manipulate kids into staying engaged. That’s why I introduced the bipartisan “Protecting Kids from Human-Like Chatbots Act” to establish clear guardrails for how AI chatbots interact with children, including banning chatbots from guilt-tripping kids, pretending to be human, or claiming to have feelings or consciousness.
