Today President Biden signed a far-reaching executive order on A.I. days before the UK A.I. Saftey Summit. “One thing is clear: To realize the promise of A.I. and avoid the risks, we need to govern this technology,” Mr. Biden said. “There’s no other way.”

Excellent, very readable and practical paper on the risks of AI and proposed mitigations by some of the leading global AI experts
New paper:
managing-ai-risks.com
Companies are planning to train models with 100x more computation than today’s state of the art, within 18 months. No one knows how powerful they will be. And there’s essentially no regulation on what they’ll be able to do with these models.

Some advocate for the pursuit of unrestricted AGI development, believing it will be beneficial to humanity. Yet, their optimism lacks credibility... What is certain, though, is that AGI doesn’t have to end humanity to cause serious harm. Hence, regulations are needed now.
Proclamations coming from the industry in recent months would have people believe the robot revolution is just around the corner.

"One of the major risks associated with AI is the scale at which it can operate. When errors or biases are present in an AI model, they can be magnified and perpetuated on a large scale."

Mary Robinson, Chair of The Elders:
“The world is at a turning point in history, comparable to the advent of the nuclear age in 1945. AI could fundamentally alter how human society is organised, national politics are conducted and international issues are managed...”
And now the Elders, led by the excellent Mary Robinson (as a former Law professor, Irish president, and climate advocate, a well-positioned person to lead such calls for international governance):
