'one good huawei chip away'. doesn't this forget to take into account the incredibly complex semiconductor supply chain (TSMC + ASML and friends) that is basically impossible to replicate for China? what am I missing
We do not even have a firm grip on the AI sector, we’re one good Huawei chip away from irrelevance in that area too Generally speaking people have no idea how corpulent and calcified American big business and finance have become, we’re in for a rough decade

initially disagreed with everyone saying 'it should have stayed rail' but when looking at the map the high line is exactly in an area not particularly well covered by the subway. couldn't they just have made line 7 make use of the high line tracks?
The High Line in NYC might be the best public project built in America over the last 20 years

yeah because they die of other stuff. Japan is interesting though. 267 vs ~340-350 in the west, while they have higher life expectancy. Guess it's due to diet.
One thing Africans are REALLY GOOD AT. Not getting cancer (these rates are age adjusted).

found myself using @FT less and less, even though their articles are okay. just their algorithm and UI is fucking shit.

The @TheEconomist at least has a nice organised UI, with articles separated by edition and topic. i can quickly skip to articles with headers i find interesting. Just a way more efficient UI.

goes to show the importance of UX. economist can be annoyingly biased but the information density is 'good enough' and so i will pick it over FT for its UI

what stops Kimmel from just starting his own podcast or youtube channel and talk about whatever the fuck he wants?

america controlling free speech, china controlling free speech. Europe becoming more irrelevant. 1984 vibes. Are we starting to see the emergence Oceania and Eastasia. Eurasia is just going to be part of 'disputed zone'.

this says a lot despite the denial, it shows people want to exploit H-1B to pay low wages over Americans ...which is the case with the tech H-1B workers.

Coincidentally, there is a trending post on the dutch subreddit discussing an article which claims the Dutch are falling behind because of lack of ambition. Most replies are along the lines of "less ambition is good, we have it good enough". IMO it shows: * an alarming lack of awareness of the risk that we can lose everything we fought for in the past, * that there is no desire to make life/humanity even better (cure cancer/death, go to Mars, infinite energy, etc.)

Japan's exceptional extreme age longevity? Unfortunately, not all that exceptional. The most impressive specimens in the list are almost certainly fakes. Source: cremieux.xyz/p/the-blue-zone…
