1/ Wood drastically... Wood "drastically underestimates how many jobs require a degree they don't need." You got that from some small, tuition-dependent private college's glossy brochure, right? Yeah, I read that too.
The root issue is that many jobs require a degree and don't need one.
Why? There is a circular, self-aggrandizing loop in which states and universities have nurtured this problem to the detriment of people who want to contribute across many fields.
> Step 1. Universities and professional associations lobby the government for standards.
> Step 2. The government mandates an occupational license for [field] and requires a degree from an accredited program to obtain it.
> Step 3. The accrediting bodies set the curriculum and certify universities to...
> Step 4. Universities sell now-mandatory degrees to students who want access to the field, financed by debt.
> Step 5. The proceeds of Step 4 pour into Step 1.
We should fix *this*.
Maybe you shouldn't need a bachelor's degree to be a PK-5 teacher or a social worker, as all 50 states now require.
A librarian used to be an apprenticeship program, but now requires a Master's degree!
As of 2024, Registered Dietitians now must have a Master's degree to even take the test for a state license. (It used to be a Bachelor's degree and an internship.) Cui bono?
In this way, higher education has become a shadow legislative body because state governments demand a license and then delegate the writing of the specifications to the education industrial complex.
6/ The state demands the license, then hands the pen to the education industrial complex to write the specs. Higher education became a shadow legislature and nobody voted on it.

Peter Thiel confirms that tech execs generally place severe restrictions on tech use by their own children.
His limit for his kids: 1.5 hours per week.
(kids were 3.5 and 5 at the time)
As we say in The Amazing Generation, the "tech wizards" want YOUR kids to spend all day.
Peter Thiel on screen time for kids:
“If you ask executives of social media companies how much screen time they let their kids have— there’s probably an interesting critique one could make.”
@andrewrsorkin: “What do you do?”
Thiel: “An hour and a half a week.”

School-issued laptops distract students at school and home, expose them to things they shouldn’t see, and hurt learning.

There aren't iPad kids. Only iPad adults...
Adults who give kids iPads to "sit down and shut up." Adults are the problem - not children.
🧵From @JonHaidt … This data is extraordinary. Why are parents still introducing iPads/tablets so early when we know it has negative effects of children’s mental health, long-term?

🚨 NEW: I’m calling on the Trump-Vance Administration to provide immediate relief to small businesses being crushed by their reckless tariffs.
While President Trump has been making exemptions for billionaire business owners, I am fighting for small business owners to get the same relief. Read the letter here: morrison.house.gov/sites/evo…
