I've been unusually quiet, here - just wanted to let you all know what's going on. This is my last week at Grist, next week I start full time as a trainee electrician.

This is incredible. The last 20 years have transformed the world, apparently, and I'm just learning about it now. Has anyone dug into this?

"America has changed sides in the middle of a war", says Churchill's biographer, @aroberts_andrew, launching an excoriating attack on the Trump administration. His closing words are worth hearing.

Hello there from across the vast emptiness. You're there I see, you finally found it: This little message in a bottle made of ones and zeros. I made it just for you.
Where is the electricity from California batteries going? In this chart I see about 31 MW/h charging and about 21 MW/h discharging. Is the chart just misleading? caiso.com/TodaysOutlook/Page…

The fact that Texas has more than 3x the solar capacity coming online this year than California should make us reassess what we consider effective policy here.
Yes, targets and subsidies are important, but so are interconnections and regulatory reform.
Fantastic piece on another problem electrification will have to tackle: not only is there a lack of workers, many of them don't know what they are doing asteriskmag.com/issues/05/li… by @JesseTayRiver
fwiw I haven't experienced this on the electrical side. I think there's too much regulatory barriers for electricians but I recognize the value of SOME credentialling.
Scott Poynton made a video of us discussing our work together - he helped me when I was in a dark place, and a big part of that was showing me the dark place is also the place of transformation youtube.com/watch?v=3PxcfyLS…

My boss and I have a running joke where we come up with inappropriate names for the electrical company. Some examples: Shock and Awe Electric, Sparky McZapface, Jedi Electric: Become the circuit, feel the power.
I'd love to see the logos for some of these - if I had a Sparky McZapface van it would make me grin every single day.
