This is a complicated but, at the same time, a very simple story that is rarely given in full, frustratingly. The reappearance of bluefin tuna in UK seas is a result of climate change, as was their prior disappearance. Current warmer conditions due to climate change have seen the northwards movement of bluefin tuna in the northeast Atlantic. (Cooler conditions after the turn of the 20th century saw the disappearance of tuna as they moved southwards.) The abundance of bluefin tuna is due to a stock recovery due to a combination of ICCAT fishing quotas and recent successive years of favourable conditions for tuna recruitment in the Mediterranean.

Bluefin tuna are back in UK seas. The climate warming that caused this animal to move northwards has future ramifications for marine ecosystems. I co-authored an opinion piece for the journal Climate Research that, until now, has been behind a paywall but is now, FREE to read. "Absence of an internal multidecadal oscillation in the North Atlantic has consequences for anticipating the future of marine ecosystems:: int-res.com/articles/cr2021/….
🚨🐟 Over 40% of UK fish populations have declined in the last 10 years as the UK Govt continues to set fishing catch quotas above scientifically advised sustainable levels 😡

🌿Studland Bay in Dorset, home to spiny & short-snouted seahorses, saw record numbers last year when a drop in visiting boats allowed the seagrass to recover.
Now extreme weather threatens this precious habitat, along with the seahorses that rely on it.
