Woodbridge is re-applying for designated bathing status for more of the River Deben.
Our official consultation was kickstarted April 22, continuing to end Sept 2023. Some key dates and contacts below
Save the dates, please ( & do please rt) #dbw #waterquality #riverdeben #deben
What pests we are
"Water chief blames wild swimmers and canoeists for highlighting sewage scandal."
See, if only you'd all mind your own bloody business, stop swimming, canoeing, fishing and in fact being anywhere near a river none of this would have happened.
GOT THAT!

Suella Braverman keeps repeating that the Rwanda scheme etc is the “will of the British people”
If, like me, you’re British, & this is not your “will” let her know by retweeting this please.
We deserve to be heard

92.9% bathing waters good/excellent 2022 Dr C, but nothing on our rivers. Jumped through the hoops for bathing water status, but 2023 swim season evidence of improvement to our rivers - 0%! Is bathing water status a red herring that allows Defra to fiddle while our rivers churn!

Yes I spoke with her yesterday in Woodbridge. She told me that she visited Creek Farm stw. Also that AW intend to install further sanitisation at the works not UV but something cheaper. I thanked her for her time. Could have spent all day talking about our rivers and seas. – at East, England

Over a year since #Woodbridge residents were were raising concerns about #riverDeben #waterquality. Seemingly to the sound of silence (except our own voices)
What a lot has happened since!
Inc local election results that suggest our concerns were justified

And on we go.
Next step bathing certification. Imagine, people have lived, worked and by the Deben for 8000 years, but the EA doesn't test the waterbecause it doesn't have "designated bathing status." I kid you not

What a contrast.
Paris spends €1bn to clean up the Seine so people can go swimming in it while last year alone @thameswater spent 7,000 hours dumping sewage into 31 of London's rivers all of which ends up in the Thames.
Ho hum.

A fun *flush mob* singing sewage songs down #Woodbridge Thoroughfare this morning with Dirty Water Campaigners. Members of the public were unsurprisingly unanimously supportive of the campaign, joined in, applauded & were angry with @theresecoffey & her excuses.

There's something wonderfully karmic about Environment Minister Therese Coffey having some of the most effective anti-sewage campaigners in her constituency. Their work has made national news several times (and, of course, features regularly in @BylinesEast).
Achieving good water quality means more than going though the motions!

Great interest in our official resubmission of @SaveDeben's 2nd #Woodbridge Designated Bathing Status application, opened at our #EarthDay stall today.
I brought a tray of fossils & ancient artefacts I've found on #Deben riverbanks over the years.
