In my job I read A LOT of children’s books. IMO many contemporary books lack theme, vocabulary and over all feel full of nonsense from the illustration to the language. So I thought to create an ongoing rec list if anybody at all is interested.

Astonishing that there are still boomers comfortably reassuring the world and themselves it wasn't industrial scale grooming, rape, and torture, it was "sex"
It was horrible, Paul. But it was a bit more complicated than that, wasn’t it ? Sex often is
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Rape of children is not "sex" .
There is nothing "complicated" about the fact that the victims of Asian grooming gangs were children and were ignored by authorities for years.

The taking too much acid in your teens and early twenties to becoming an off putting catholic carpenter with idiosyncratic aesthetic interests pipeline is REAL

Sheep are central to the British mythic self-imaginary, possibly the only European country outside of the Balkans for this to be the case (in Ireland it’s very much cows instead)

You’re never going to find a place worth living that doesn’t have its own idiosyncratic and profound bleakness. Culture needs bleakness to create GOOD things. The ambient threat of the bleak creates culture like surviving blizzards or heat waves or tornado does

The labors of the plough,
And ripening fruits and forest leaves
All brighten on the bough;

Tell me how you got your cat because I swear God distributes them. You’ll just be going about your business and you end up with a cat one day. That’s how it works. That’s how everyone gets their cat. God entrusted you with a cat so now you have one. Holy cat distribution is real.

Seems pretty obvious that we shouldn’t praise mental ill people that publicly kill themselves in incredibly gruesome and painful ways.

Haven’t been on Twitter really for well over a year. Had a very busy year. Got married, bought a house, learnt to drive. But I also started teaching a new year group so came back to Twitter to update my children’s book list with new ideas and also hopefully receive some also!
