Have I failed?
Maybe.
At the start of the year I took a risk and changed up my videos.
Since then, they’ve all been 9/10 or 10/10
(If you don’t speak YouTube, that’s bad)
So… Was it a bad decision?
My views are down massively. If that was my measure, I’ve failed.
But part of my reason for the change was to focus on videos that were more true to me, and that had the potential to actually inspire my audience and encourage them to take a leap and get more creative.
I didn’t want to just make videos for the sake of views.
And then I see comments like these. And I remember that 20k people is still a crazy number of people.
And maybe inspiring a few is just as much of a success as entertaining many.
I don’t know if I’ll change my plan in another few months, but for now, I think I’m doing exactly what I need to do.
I see why so many people have given up on Twitter.
I hardly see friends anymore. I hardly get replies from friends anymore.
I see controversy, meme accounts, lots of US politics (I’m not even American), scammy ads, AI ads, soft porn ads…
And most of the likes I get are from OF accounts.
This app is so broken. It’s not fun anymore. It’s not even a place I can come to connect with other creators anymore.
I’m hanging on to something that no longer seems to exist.
Is anyone still here that isn’t prioritizing a better place?
My X reach has gone back to that frustrating stage where the only reactions my posts seem to get are from random OF accounts
This is why I think creators shouldn't be so quick to dismiss Pinterest or publishing blogs (instead of just 'blogging' in Insta captions).
It might not go viral, but it's a great long game.
Emails aren't on this list, but I don't know many people that save emails to come back to later like they do Pinterest, YouTube or blogs.
