What wonderful news today - congratulations Charlottesville! #CvilleStatuesDown
As the crane moves into position to remove Charlottesville's Lee statue, 3 Black women in City leadership (police chief, Mayor @NikuyahWalkerCC, student activist @ZyahnaB) speak to the press about symbolic 1st steps to eradicating white supremacy. #Cvillestatuesdown

@dendroica's record of Arctic Loon from 2018 was accepted by the NJ Bird Records Committee in April. I was able to get the sighting in eBird updated from "loon sp." It's the best documented eastern US record and first state record. ebird.org/nj/checklist/S4449…
I hope this will be the first of many awesome scholars that @UNC fails to recruit. The board's treatment of @nhannahjones is shameful. insidehighered.com/news/2021…
Boy, am I glad I didn't waste any precious brain cells worrying about this last summer.

Obituary for my brother, John Beetham, @dendroica. jkfuneralhome.com/obituary/J…
A wonderful post in memory of my brother, John Beetham, @dendroica. John was the kindest, gentlest, most considerate man, and it has meant so much in the past few days to read the tributes from all of the people he touched.

Absolutely shattered to learn of the passing of John Beetham (@dendroica), who I've known since 2006 when he was running his DC Birding Blog. We only met once or twice but he was so kind and steady and dedicated. I can't believe this.

There are no Nazi monuments in Germany, but we've got Confederate monuments in the U.S. South. We can better express empathy and inclusive democratic values by removing Confederate propaganda art from public spaces. (So I wrote something about it.)
