Regulating the data advantage: India’s new e-Commerce framework
Consumer Protection (E-Comm) (Amendment) Rules, 2026, represents a decisive attempt to protect consumer interests
@gangeshvarma & @naskar_srija of @sarafpartners explain
governancenow.com/views/colu…
In his article, “𝐌𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐍𝐨𝐰 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚,” published today in @FinancialXpress, our Founder and Managing Partner, Mohit Saraf, examines the economic rationale behind India’s energy policy and its pursuit of strategic autonomy.
The argument is simple: India’s energy policy was never about choosing Russia. It was about choosing affordable energy.
President Trump’s decision to turn to Russian diesel to protect American farmers, truckers and consumers from higher fuel prices brings that reality into sharp focus. Governments have a fundamental responsibility to protect the economic interests of their citizens. That principle cannot apply differently depending on whether those citizens live in Washington or New Delhi.
India has shown that it will buy Saudi, Venezuelan, Russian or any other crude when it is commercially competitive and lawfully available. That is not alignment. It is strategic autonomy.
For a country of 1.4 billion people, affordable energy is not merely an economic consideration. It touches transportation, agriculture, manufacturing and ultimately almost every household.
Perhaps recent events have brought India and America a little closer to understanding each other. India seeks no special treatment, just the same understanding America gives itself.
As Mr. Saraf concludes:
“𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫. 𝐒𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬.”

Our Partner, 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐚 𝐒𝐮𝐝, moderated a thought-provoking debate on this question at 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐀𝐃𝐑 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, organised by the Mumbai Centre For International Arbitration (MCIA).
The Oxford-style debate brought together distinguished practitioners to examine whether arbitrators should be subject to greater professional regulation, and what such a framework could mean for accountability, independence and party autonomy in arbitration.
Moderating the discussion, Sanya brought into focus some of the fundamental questions at the heart of the debate, including the appointment and qualifications of arbitrators, standards of conduct, mechanisms for removal and the appropriate balance between oversight and arbitral independence.
The session offered contrasting perspectives on an issue of growing relevance to the arbitration community and highlighted the broader question of how the arbitral process can continue to evolve while preserving the principles that underpin it.

The capital infusion takes AMPIN’s total equity raised to nearly USD 1 billion, enabling capital deployment of over USD 4 billion.
This transaction is a significant milestone in India’s renewable energy landscape, with AMPIN becoming the only energy transition company in India to attract leading investors from Europe, North America, and Asia. The deal reinforces India’s position as a key growth market for international clean energy capital and supports the country’s ambitious target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel generation capacity by 2030.

Data privacy compliance isn't a checklist; it's an organization-wide operating system spanning technology, people, policies, and vendors. As 𝐀𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐲𝐲 𝐒 𝐍𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚 highlights in his latest article, delay only narrows your options: rushed programs cost more, leave gaps, and often need to be rebuilt. 𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐚𝐠𝐨 — 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝-𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲.
From data mapping and vendor diligence to AI governance and breach readiness, building a privacy program demands cross-functional commitment and sustained investment. Early movers gain a strategic edge — turning privacy into a competitive asset rather than an expensive crisis response.

An eminent assembly of Board Members, Independent Directors, CXOs, Key Managerial Personnel, General Counsels, and seasoned Legal, Governance & Compliance practitioners gathered for a focused, high-caliber discussion addressing one of the defining regulatory challenges before corporate India: charting the path forward under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲: The DPDP Act has decisively moved beyond the realm of routine compliance — it now commands sustained attention at the highest echelons of corporate leadership. The conversations revealed a fundamental recalibration in how organizations perceive privacy: no longer a siloed regulatory burden, but an integral dimension of enterprise trust, long-term resilience, and sustainable value creation. The overarching consensus was clear: Transparency and Trust will be the defining mantra of this new DPDP era, and in the DPDP landscape, Trust is poised to become the new oil.
