Hey everyone. We've been quietly building something for a while now. It started because we were learning Japanese and couldn't find anything that taught kanji in a way that clicked for us.
Today we're opening it up. This is Kanjimori.

When I see new products and they’re marketed as “agentic ___” it’s an immediate red flag for me, because what do you mean the only point of view your product has is “I put AI in it”? Ship something meaningful.
This is a great example of how most people teach kanji wrong.
亻 is a form of 人(person). Learn this and you can understand why this character means “rest”: it depicts a person resting against a tree.
Learning actual kanji composition can dramatically speed up your learning.
This is cool! But this isn’t a “Pokémon game” any more than those “I made League of Legends in a day” videos are League of Legends.
This is at best the first 5%. Pretending otherwise feels disingenuous and makes it harder to appreciate the genuine strengths of these products.

8,000 lines of code. All 151 Gen-1 Pokémon. One shot.

Titles are our first reward type for @thekanjimori. You unlock them like achievements.
We’re a learning app, so what are the right things to reward? Commitment? Accuracy? Overcoming adversity? Doing something rare?
Let us know.

When I’m making something, there’s usually a moment where it feels real, not just like I’m checking it for bugs.
For @thekanjimori, that’s been the past week or so. Come check it out for free: thekanjimori.com

Recently I've been having fun creating some programmatic visual assets for celebrations and now premium gift codes.
Kanjimori is mostly vanilla Javascript and CSS on the frontend, so figuring out how to make these is rewarding, pun intended.

Friends and mutuals: if you’re not learning Japanese but you still want to support Kanjimori, you can repost the thread below, or share the links with people you know.

Thank you so much!
Come try out Kanjimori right now. It's free for five levels, and all you need is basic knowledge of hiragana and katakana to begin.

Hey UX and game design homies—if you know me directly or we're connected through a mutual and you might be open to contract work on some interesting projects, let's chat.
On the UX side: strong game and/or product UX background, Figma expertise, Unreal/multiplatform experience is a plus.
On the game design side: systems design primarily, goals-driven approach, multiplatform is a plus.
Could potentially be full- or part-time contract work depending on fit. Senior+ ideally, shoot me a DM!
Another cool thing you start to see when you map these big kanji family trees: forms.
A lot of kanji can take on different shapes when they are used as components. Take 人 (person) for example.
When it's used as a component it can become: 亻・ 儿・𠆢・勹 2/4
If instead you look at the family tree, you can analyze and look for patterns, like if you think the person component in 休 (resting), 住 (master), 信 (belief), 働 (motion) is semantic or not. 3/4
