I’ve said it many times before. And I’ll say it once again. Algorithms are biased because people are. Algorithms are trained on historic data patterns which incorporate systemic social inequalities. This is why algorithms used for A- level grades are biased & hugely problematic.

We are dedicating £5,000 to Black young people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds looking to appeal their A Level results and cannot do so due to financial implications. If you are/work with young people experiencing this, please contact us on blackticketproject@gmail.com.

Trans allyship: a thread.
I've been asked to speak on panels about trans activism a lot the last few years, esp through pride month. One question I *always* get asked is: what can people do to be in solidarity/allyship. I've been asked it year on year on year:

If you’ve been confused about what’s going on in relation to Trans rights and why we are so scared and hurt by things going on in what’s framed as a women’s rights vs trans rights debate, please read this vice.com/en_uk/article/889qe…

This is from Baltimore's "Black Trans Lives Matter" protest. It was organized and led by a Black trans woman and other Black trans + queer activists from Baltimore Safe Haven. Don't ever let this photo be used out of THAT context to perpetuate a trans-exclusionary movement.

It’s worth noting that “disband” does not mean “abolish.” Camden, New Jersey has been considered an example of police reform after disbanding its department and creating a new county force
BREAKING: A veto-proof majority of Minneapolis City Council members will announce today their commitment to disbanding the city’s embattled police department following the killing of George Floyd.
