12 October 1942 | Two transports of Jews deported from Kazerne Dossin in Mechelen in occupied Belgium arrived at Auschwitz with 1,674 Jewish men, women, and children.
After the selection made by SS doctors, 1,558 people were murdered in gas chambers. Only 28 men and 88 women were registered in the camp.
One of the registered was Sraul Kalina, born in Warsaw on 15 August 1914. He received no. 67736. He did not survive.

ALT The black-and-white photograph portrays a young man with a friendly, slight smile, dressed in formal attire. He is wearing a dark jacket over a collared shirt with a striped tie, giving him a neat appearance. His dark hair is combed back, revealing prominent ears, and his gaze is directed towards the camera, conveying a sense of calm and composure. The backdrop appears textured, adding a vintage character to the photo.

Margot Frank is often remembered only as Anne Frank's older sister, but she had a remarkable story of her own. Born in Germany in 1926, Margot was an outstanding student who excelled in school after her family fled Nazi persecution and settled in Amsterdam. Quiet, intelligent, and deeply devoted to her studies, she dreamed of becoming a midwife in what would later become Israel.
Everything changed on July 5, 1942, when Margot received a Gestapo order to report to a German labor camp. The summons forced the Frank family into hiding the very next day in the Secret Annex, where they lived in silence for more than two years alongside four other Jewish refugees. Like Anne, Margot kept a diary during their time in hiding, but unlike Anne's, it has never been found.
After the group was betrayed and arrested in August 1944, Margot was deported first to Auschwitz and later to Bergen-Belsen with Anne. There, as disease swept through the overcrowded camp, Margot became too weak to stand and reportedly fell from her bunk onto the stone floor. She died of typhus in early 1945 at just 19 years old. Anne died from the same disease a day or two later, only weeks before British forces liberated the camp.
Otto Frank was the only member of the family to survive the Holocaust. Anne's diary became one of the world's most influential books, but Margot's diary was never recovered.
