One of Wall Street's biggest tech bulls has revived his bullish coverage of the sector. @DivesTech has returned to covering the market after departing Wedbush Securities, where he worked for nearly eight years as an equity researcher and then as the head of technology research. On Tuesday, he dropped a note initiating coverage of the tech sector for his new new venture Yorkville Ives, described as a modern merchant bank for the age of AI. Michael Burry and Steve Eisman both rose to fame betting against the US housing market, but they're at odds over what the future may hold for the AI trade. Unbridled enthusiasm for AI has often been the target of Burry's bearish posts. Earlier this year, he announced bets against some of the sector's leading names and has predicted that the AI boom will end in disaster. Burry has taken aim at a specific piece of the AI story, specifically booming demand for high-tech chips to run and train models. The data center explosion has been a boon for hardware makers like Nvidia, but Burry argues that depreciating chip values are a major problem for companies. Intel stock dropped 3% to start the week, dipping to a low of $115.31. Shares of the US chipmaker are up 213% year to date. The stock dropped as the week began following a weekend post from Elon Musk that hinted at a deepening partnership with an Intel rival. On Saturday, Musk addressed a report from tech journalist and researcher Tim Culpan, who claimed that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company could work with Terafab, Musk's planned semiconductor plant being developed by Tesla, SpaceX, and Intel. I wish I didn't have to dig extensively through my X feed just to find recent posts from people I actually follow. This platform has truly gone the way of Facebook. To state the painfully obvious, that's not a good thing.

Do people actively believe that AI can wipe out all of humanity or have they just realized that sharing a detailed thesis on that topic is a highly effective way to go viral? Asking for a friend.

More or less how I'm feeling about things.
Sitting out the "AI might kill us" news cycle. Don't like to worry about things that may kill us. Also sat out microplastics, black plastic spatulas, moderate drinking. Don't want to worry about it, want to be pleasantly surprised when it happens

I miss the version of X that didn't show me posts from months ago for no apparent reason (i,e the one from years ago that was still known as Twitter). I often say that I wish other platforms were more like LinkedIn but that is definitely not how I mean it.

A famous YouTuber is the meme-stock crowd's latest hero. Popular content creator and independent film producer Markiplier (real name Mark Fischbach) has become the biggest shareholder in camera maker GoPro, with a 8.5% stake worth roughly $20 million after a two-day rally. The announcement quickly sent the penny stock surging on Monday, with gains extending on Tuesday. Since Friday's close, that stock is up 173%, hitting an intraday high on Tuesday of $1.64. "I saw the stock and where it was, I was like 'that seems undervalued,'" Fischbach said in an interview with Bloomberg. "It's just something I've been cooking in the background; I want the company to succeed." That's just where it starts. The AI bubble is simple, Ed Zitron says, because it's really a bubble in a single company: OpenAI. As the ChatGPT maker heads toward a momentous IPO, the researcher and AI skeptic says that OpenAI is the only reason anyone cares about AI at all—and it's failure would spark a collapse similar to the one set off by Lehman Brothers when the bank fell apart in 2008. Zitron has repeatedly sounded the alarm on AI broadly and OpenAI specifically, publishing a report last month that he said shows OpenAI's finances are in turmoil. "The launch of ChatGPT in November 2022 came at the perfect time for a tech industry that had run out of ideas," he wrote in a post on July 15. "The existence of OpenAI justified an era of mania and opulence..." Read the full story in my latest for @BusinessInsider ⬇️ 📰 businessinsider.com/openai-i… #AI #OpenAI #TechStocks

Businesses are urging Congress to strip a measure from a bill that would restrict defense contractors from issuing dividends or buying back their stock. More than 40 business and industry groups have penned a letter to the Senate urging action on section 815 of the National Defense Authorization Act, a provision that would effectively ban companies that contract with the Department of Defense from buying back their own shares or paying dividends. "If adopted, Section 815 would harm millions of American retirees and other investors by restricting lawful returns of capital to shareholders, establish a troubling precedent for federal interference in corporate governance and capital allocation decisions," the letter stated. President Trump first discussed the idea of barring defense contractors from stock buybacks in January... Read the full story in my latest for @BusinessInsider ⬇️📰 businessinsider.com/stock-bu…

Would you pay $150 for a souvenir cup? No? How about $200 for a cup and a baseball cap? Still no? What if it has the SpaceX logo on it? There's a colorful and weird market online for such swag, as eBay sellers look to cash in on the hype in the wake of the historic SpaceX IPO last month. One seller is offering a set of two glow sticks they say were handed out at the IPO launch party for $150. For $228, you can buy a framed S-1. If you really want to splurge, why not pay $5,000 for an "Elon Musk Rookie Card"? While it doesn't appear to be explicitly linked to the IPO, the listing banner reads: "SpaceX IPO Elon Musk! ROOKIE CARD!" In my latest for @BusinessInsider, I explore the booming SpaceX merchandise market that has taken off recently. businessinsider.com/spacex-c… $SPCX
