We have seen the OHCHR’s remarks about today’s events in New Delhi.
India is the world’s largest democracy, where the right to peaceful assembly is guaranteed by our Constitution and safeguarded by robust institutions, an independent judiciary and a free media. As in every democracy, Indian citizens exercise this right subject to reasonable restrictions in the interest of public order. The authorities, for their part, act in accordance with the law, and our courts remain available to all for redressal of any grievances.
The OHCHR’s concerns are therefore misplaced and constitute an unwarranted interference in the internal affairs of India.
In this context, OHCHR would also do well to devote comparable attention to large-scale protests elsewhere, consistent with its mandate of impartiality and non-selectivity.

October 7, 2023 changed Israel forever.
More than 1,200 people were murdered, and hundreds were taken hostage. Three years later, we remember every life lost, and the families who continue to carry that pain every day.
Because behind every name, every number and every memorial, there is a person. A family. A life that mattered.

The terror attack on the Flydubai flight to Tel Aviv was more than an attack on Israelis. It was an attack on Israel–UAE relations and everything the Abraham Accords represent.
Instead, the world saw Israelis, Emiratis and Indians showing extraordinary courage and standing together against terror. 🇮🇱🇦🇪🇮🇳
Terror will not derail the progress transforming our region.

“Thank you, hero.” 🇮🇱🇮🇳
Days after the dramatic flydubai flight I’ve been reporting on, this appeared today at Israel’s Ad Halom junction: a massive billboard honoring Capt. Smit Machhar.
His photo. A simple message in Hebrew and Hindi:
Thank you, hero.
A fitting tribute to the pilot whose actions helped prevent a far greater disaster.

I was so honoured to share this special message with the National Convention on Indian Jews & India-Israel Festival organized by the Embassy of India @indemtel in Israel last night:

My salute to the Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar for his extraordinary bravery.
Despite being stabbed and seriously injured, he fought back, resisted, opened the cockpit door, and enabled passengers and crew to overpower the attacker — preventing a catastrophic mid-air disaster.
He saved the lives of 174 people, including Israeli citizens and other nationals.
I wish Captain Machchhar a speedy and full recovery.
He is a true hero.

This man is a hero.
Captain Smit Machchhar, the Indian captain of flydubai Flight 1073, fought back after being stabbed in the cockpit.
Despite being severely injured, he managed to unlock the cockpit door - allowing Israeli passengers and the Emirati crew to intervene and save all the passengers.
Together, their extraordinary courage saved 174 lives.
Indian. Israeli. Emirati.
Different nationalities. One extraordinary act of courage. 🇮🇳🇮🇱🇦🇪
We wish Captain Machchhar a full and speedy recovery.

All Air Warriors of the Indian Air Force extend their deepest condolences on the passing of Flight Lieutenant Alfred Tyrone Cooke, VrC.
A war hero whose courage is etched forever in the annals of military aviation, Flt Lt Cooke exemplified supreme valor during the 1965 Indo-Pak War.
"His legendary dogfight over Kalaikunda remains a masterclass in aggressive air combat and unwavering resolve."
For his conspicuous gallantry, tactical brilliance, and disregard to personal safety, he was awarded the Vir Chakra.
His memory will continue to inspire generations of Air Warriors.
