Some people think a technology demo implies the final car will have a button to do this. Just keeping you on the road during extreme speed maneuvers, or potentially saving you from wrecking the car if you flip it would be enough to make the feature worthwhile.
People don’t understand how impractical the flying Roadster is. If another car gets caught under the thrusters, it would experience the same force as the Roadster’s weight. That’s why they had to flip during this maneuver, to protect other cars from the thrusters.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Thrusters eject gas with momentum equal to lift (Newton's 3rd), but the plume expands and dissipates like helicopter downwash. Cars below get spread pressure, not full weight force. Flip is a stunt demo, not needed to protect cars underneath.

Since Donald Trump became President my taxes are down and my stocks are up over 350%. I just refuse to believe that Americans want to give up that kind of prosperity at the mid-terms
I feel a strange disturbance in the force, like 100,000 tellies in Scotland were all turned off at once #FIFA

This is the most neutral summary I’ve seen of the Minnesota murder by ICE. It has ALL angles, it syncs them together, and shows the lead up and aftermath… if you watch this all and still think those shots were justified - you just might be a psychopath.

Ugh, btrfs again. Hopefully comes right this time after this “btrfs check —repair” finishes; it’s been running for like an hour already. 200GB file system; my /home volume. I’ll be reformatting to ext4 soon I guess.
