The Green Party Should Be Declared a Hate Group—and Its MPs and Councillors Barred from Public Office
There is something rather extraordinary about a political party adopting a motion declaring Zionism a form of racism, only for its leader to assure the country that there is nothing particularly controversial about it.
Yet @ZackPolanski insists that @TheGreenParty’s motion is “not controversial” and has confirmed that he will not seek to overturn the decision before 2028.¹
The Electoral Commission does not presently possess a general power to deregister a political party simply because its views are considered hateful or offensive. Nor does His Majesty’s Government (HMG) have the general authority to disqualify elected MPs and councillors merely because of their political opinions or those of their party.²
But surely Parliament must now confront whether the law provides adequate safeguards against political organisations that promote hatred or discrimination.
In my view, where an independent judicial process establishes that a political party has promoted unlawful hatred or discrimination, the law should permit deregistration and, where individual wrongdoing warrants it, disqualification from public office.
The Government must give the Electoral Commission greater powers to deregister political parties, introduce a more robust registration process and, where appropriate, establish legal safeguards enabling the courts to disqualify individuals from holding public office.
For democracy cannot survive on the ballot box alone. It depends equally upon the rule of law, the protection of religious freedom and the principle that no political party—however popular, fashionable or self-righteous—is above either.
And if the law proves incapable of confronting unlawful hatred within political life, then perhaps it is the law itself that Parliament must revisit.

RONALD REAGAN — ON POLITICIANS AND HEAVEN
“An evangelical minister and a politician arrived at Heaven’s gates together.
St. Peter welcomed them both and showed the minister to a small, modest room containing only a bed, a chair and a table.
The politician, fearing what might await him, was astonished when St. Peter led him to a magnificent mansion, surrounded by beautiful gardens and attended by servants.
Bewildered, the politician asked:
‘But why should I receive such a splendid mansion when that good and holy man is given only a single room?’
St. Peter smiled and replied:
‘You have to understand how things are up here. We’ve got thousands and thousands of clergy. You’re the first politician who ever made it.’”

Nukes are the big difference between today and 1914 or 1939. Would the U.S. President ever use them?
“What do nuclear weapons deter? Russia’s possession hasn’t stopped Ukraine forces from crossing into Russian territory. It hasn’t stopped Kyiv from striking inside Russia, even attacking its irreplaceable nuclear bomber fleet.”

By 1907, fewer than 1,000 bison remained in North America.
That year, the Bronx Zoo shipped 15 bison to Oklahoma's Wichita Mountains in one of the first bison reintroduction efforts — and it worked.
Their descendants still roam those grasslands today.

I came to Ireland and the UK this week with my J7 colleagues specifically to ring the alarm bell about rising antisemitism.
Reports that a Dublin hotel canceled 70 rooms for delegates to a conference on combating antisemitism, after reportedly asking whether the IDF was involved, are deeply troubling. Treating a gathering of government envoys and Jewish leaders as suspect because of Israel is the kind of conflation we're here to confront.
We need to speak up and call this apparent textbook case of antisemitism out if we want to see real change. nytimes.com/2026/10/15/world…
